Purple Meidiland is, in fact, a bright, fluorescent cherry red.

Its health initially bowled me over, though I maintained consciousness. Possibly that trait is not an issue where you live.

Very productive, too. It can get big, but responds well to a severe haircut.

Unfortunately no fragrance.

On Help Me Find Cramoisi Superieur is listed as hardy through zone 7b. Are you more 7a or 7b? Is this what you mean by cherry red?

KS I do think that's a cherry red. I'm not sure which zone 7 I am because different sources say different things plus I think they don't take into account that I live up on a hill higher than where they probably measure temps from.

Florentina and Rhode Island Red are two beautiful cherry red climbers. If you can grow Chinas there, Cramoisi Superieur and Louis Philipe are both very pretty shrubs. :-)

You would have to check for your zone but how about Munstead Wood or Maroon 8. Maroon 8 has no disease problems for me and is a lovely single/semi-double. Named one of the top roses for my area. Really takes sun and heat well.
