It was cold in that whole area, parts of Canada too. with out extra protection might have died. I would wait until mid June to do any digging just to be sure.

Thank you all. I don’t wanna give up lol. Maybe next year, I’ll try bubble wraps. I protected them this year but since I didn’t have leaves to mulch I used cedar mulch instead. :(

i planted Musa basjoo last year just a little east of Lansing MI. it grew one stalk about 5 ft, and three pups just a foot or two tall. in the fall i cut all the leaves off and the stalks down to about 18". I covered it all with a large pot filled with dry leaves, encircled it all with 2' tall chicken wire about 4' diameter. Filled that with dried leaves till it mounded, then covered it all with black plastic.

I uncovered it this spring and the main stalk and two pups survived. it has already grown a few inches taller, and a new pup popped out. It has grown real slow due to the cool weather, but I'm happy it is alive.

I've only had the banana one year so i don't know if it was luck or not. i do know it is possible tho in Michigan.
