Ideas for a weird lavender plant???

So I planted 4 1gal grey lavender plants in late March. I dug a much bigger and deeper hole than they needed and planted them in a mix of pebbles, sand and our native alkaline-ish soil for drainage. They'd been doing well, but lately we've had a lot of rain. I mean, 2 in. a night for a week rain. And as I expected, they suffered. 1 died, 2 are coming back but struggling, but the 4rth is...weird. It LOVES the water!?!? Ever since it started raining, it's been noticeably bigger every day. It's almost doubled its size in a week, and rather than rotting, the leaves just get thicker and fatter. Is this a genetic anomaly? Have I found the only lavender in the world that likes to be wet? With this plant's water-loving tendencies, is it a good idea to grow some cuttings from this plant and replace the others with it? What's going on here?
