What do I do with the cream trim and blinds? I can lighten the trim, but not white as we aren’t able to replace the blinds at the moment. It isn’t too out of place? And what color tile? Decorating and design escapes me....

If you find the white counter a tad too stark and want to stay with a light counter, have a look at Arborite's Monolith, Fresh Mist, Versailles Marble, White Xabia or Sahara Sand. They have options in their solid colours as well. If you're open to dark again, look into colours like teal, green or copper (e.g. Brushed Pewter Green, Tatami Hanairo, Tatami Wasabi...) From what I can see on their website, they have a quite a few options that would look good with your cabinets. If you choose a counter with a quiet pattern, you'll have more options for your backsplash. Inversely, if you choose one with a strong pattern, you'll be limited for the backsplash. Btw, the reflection under the microwave made me think you had a painted glass backsplash.

everything is fine...blinds and window trim : non issue. Change the sink however[If it were mine]...single bowl, stainless, drop in micro edge or undermount. The black or charcoal there stood out when I looked [not a plus] ...you can change it for the better. I see the dark hardware..and it looks good..but the kitchen is small to mod sized I just don't think you need a black sink to grab the focus and the lighter counter remaining, in whatever you pick, is a good idea. It'll be great.

I just redecorated my kitchen, and went with Formica FX countertops in Dolce Vita. I also have maple cabinets that I liked and wanted to enhance. The Dolce Vita let me bring in cooler tones, while containing reddish gold veins that referenced the color of my cabinets. I added subway tile by Villa in Heirloom Clay, and Revere Pewter wall color. really happy with the fresh energy it brought to my room. Looking forward to seeing what choices you eventually make!

I love your countertops and how they pair with the rest of your kitchen. Just avoid creating strong contrast. Stick to the palette you already have here.

I dont know your budget

but i would certainly keep the countertops and restain the cabinets in a darker color. Not too dark but a medium brown.

The cabinets already look like a medium brown on my monitor. They're a gorgeous colour; I wouldn't be tempted to change it at all.

Honestly Maple is not considered a medium dark. As u can see from the example picture thats a medium dark. If the person doesnt want to change either then some sutle accents to give a clean contrast

I'm not familiar enough with the colour descriptions, I guess. Your example looks too dark to be called "medium" in my books.

I also have Formica Dolce Vita counters like Stephenie and love them. It would look well with your wood tone and give a little pazzas to the kitchen other than plain white. It wouldn't hurt to look at Formica FX 180 samples at a store before you make your choice. There is some quite lovely ones.

Katherine, it looks fine to me from what I can see in your photo. Would you be able to take a better, closer picture which would include the countertop and trim? I really wouldn't worry about the blinds.

A lot of people think all finishes need to "match", but what's much more important, and helps to give a more layered, less static, look, is to have all of the finishes work together, and that means they don't have to be exact matches.

We chose laminate for our perimeter countertops in our new kitchen, and I'm always happy to see them in other kitchens. The maintenance is easy, the price is right, and laminate is quite easy on plates and glasses : ) .

PS I meant to say, what a pretty kitchen, and I think once it's completely finished and you have accessories -- tea towels, canisters, etc. -- any difference you see in the finishes will be considerably less obvious.

Also, this is the stage in a reno when it's very common and very easy to second-guess yourself. Keep going : ) .

Thank-you everyone! I did look at the Formica 180FX samples but thought them either too brown, yellow or grey for my liking.

Will check out other arborite samples too; we really like the smooth texture of this one!

Also, I found this picture online of Wilsonart Drama Marble Laminate...I quite like it! It’s marketed as combining warm and cool tones to transition older decor more current.

The countertops are fine. I’d replace the sink. And I’d not stain the cupboards. Among the reasons not to are that maple really doesn’t stain well. It comes out very blotchy as the grain absorbs stain unevenly.

Leave the counters and cabinets alone. Replace the sink. Paint the walls and trim.

Ditto the sink, if possible. To my eye, the window trim looks fine with the cabinets and countertop. I find the wall color however, not quite right for the countertop (too warm) and with the cabinets. It looks like you'd have to paint quite a bit though! And it could be with "accessories" that you could find a way to tie it together. That's a very nice space to work with!
