Whatever kind of bug it is, they feed/attach themselves near the stem connecting the tree to the fruit. After a day or two, the fig attached via that stem dies. Not sure what they are or how to treat them. Tried neem oil which didn't seem to help but then resorting to going through and manually getting rid of them before they damage all the rest of my figs.

Do these fly or crawl like ants and are the figs in container .

If bugs do not fly and plant is in container they can be stopped with tanglefoot,vaseline, any sticky non harmful to plant substance at the base of plant.

Good point. They seem to only crawl but not completely sure.

You may be able to see if they have wings on them to fly if they do not then they can be stopped from previous post if they are doing damage.

They look like brown marmorated stink bug larvae, they feed on quite a few different types of plants. They were quite a problem here a while back but then their numbers declined, presumably from the introduction of a predatory wasp.

I think you are exactly right. Thanks. Unfortunately have a lot of the adult form around here, so it makes sense that these would be the nymph stage of them. Just never seen them at that stage before.
