I really wanted a white herringbone backsplash but my husband insisted on slab. I wasn’t sold on it but I love it. It’s so clean and in our all white kitchen it really jazzes it up

seharding here is a photo of one of the slabs we will be using. Does this look similar to your slab of Borghini Extra? It's difficult to imagine how it will look installed.

Yes that looks just like ours! Here are some images of our slabs. Still covered in plastic in some pictures which makes color look a bit off. Do you want me to take some close up pictures of ours installed?

Thanks so much for these pics! The slabs show a lot more veining than the large sample I had. From a distance, do your counters appear more white? My husband is concerned they may look busy.

The third picture I’m really close to the slab. It’s definitely not super veiny like it looks there. I actually don’t think my counters look super white. I actually like that since my cabinets are bright white. We picked Extra specifically because we didn’t want something super busy or intense. Let me take a few pictures for you

Seharding our Borghini Extra countertops were installed today and we Love them! Now we’re rethinking whether we can do do the marble subway tile with it or stay with quartz for the backsplash. The tile isn‘t an exact match, and I’m worried that it will bother me. We decided to nix the herringbone over the cooktop because it was getting busy looking. Would love anyone’s thoughts on quartz vs tile for my kitchen. Thanks!

It looks beautiful! Personally I love the slab backsplash. It’s very easy to keep clean and I love how I didn’t have to worry about colors or patterns matching. I do think the marble subway is beautiful and will look nice but I do get what you mean. Check out the listing for 6900 Millwood. We saw the house in person. Counter is different but similar style and they did marble subway....

They also did herringbone over cooktop 😬

I have friends who live in that neighborhood! The kitchen is beautiful but it’s huge and open so it can accommodate a lot of pattern. The countertop over my cooktop is only 8’ long. Thanks for sharing!

My cabinets will be painted BM White Dove next week

I should add that the marble tile is honed, which may be a problem with staining. It didn‘t come in polished unfortunately.

Great cabinet color choice. I’m not sure how honed would look against the quartz counter. Is your heart set on marble subway? Would you consider a white subway tile?

I think I'm with you seharding! Now I have to decide if I'm getting a pot filler. I don't necessarily need one, but I think they look nice and take up some visual space above the cooktop. Thoughts?

Do those of you with Emerstone find that you don't like the sheen on top? It sort of looks like a grainy texture or water marks even though the top is smooth. I can't decide if I should pull the trigger on Borghini Silver because of this sheen.

@robwolf You are saying real marble has that pebbly sheen to it also? I like the look of your Borghini Extra, is it more grey than white? Can you post more photos of it?

@seharding I don't think so. I have three samples of the Borghini Silver and they all have the same pebbly sheen, not sure if you saw my photos below. You only notice it in certain lights.

I am interested in the Borghini Extra now after seeing photos of yours and Rob's kitchens. Is it more on the gray side than white?

I see what you’re saying. So weird. I definitely do not notice that with extra and I was very picky. Yes it’s more on the gray side than white. It reminds me more of a true marble look!

Thank you! You know it’s actually not that gray I think just against my super white cabinets it brings out the gray tone a bit. With my under cabinet lighting on and all kitchen lights on it looks much more white. On an overcast day it does look a bit more gray. We are so happy with it. We spent a lot of time looking at many many slabs.

@Snbtwins Hi, Did you ever see any counters installed with the Borghini Gold or Silver? I am worried about that sheen you mention. It is on my sample piece also.

@weissr76 I actually installed Borghini Silver in my kitchen. The sheen doesn't bother me at all.

Would love feedback from those that have the Emerstone counters these past few years and how they have held up? We are in love with the calacatta gold but have only seen 2 reviews, both underwhelming. I havent found another brand with a color that i love nearly as much. Hoping to get some positive feedback!

I’ve had Emerstone installed in my kitchen since April 2018. To date no issues and yes I would purchase again. No chips or color changes. Looks the same as when purchased. Please note when first installed it felt like this fine grain on top. After watching with soap and water for about a week it was gone. I wonder if it was some type of coating to protect it. Anyway I still love the product and I only use soap and water to clean it - no special products.

Cheryl, I ended up going withPentalquartz Misterio. I found that the ones that use Breton process required me to buy a whole slab (at the store I went to) and I did not need a whole slab for my master bath project. The place I went to suggested I go with Pentalquartz, which is made in Vietnam. The sales person said that Pentalquartz had a better reputation than Emerstone, which buys from various factories. Do I know if this is true? Was the sales lady getting a bigger commission from selling Pentalquartz vs Emerstone? I have no idea. I do know that I am very happy with the Pentalquartz Misterio, which was installed December of 2021. I've been told, more than once, that the different companies are much more similar than not and it's more about picking a fantastic installer and choosing a color you like (and, of course, cost & availability). Good luck with whatever you choose. I am sure it will look lovely!
