Is there significant variation in fruit set among the various citrus varieties? From my reading around 1% is typical up to maybe 2% being a rather good fruit set for most citrus. Obviously health of the soil and tree as well as climate dictates some of the variability.

My Eureka lemon and Satsuma have around a 1-2% fruit set based on my count and estimate. My key lime grown from seed just began to fruit this year for the first time. But interestingly, it probably had less than 50 blooms (better than I expected for being in its first bloom season). After the initial bloom and fruit drops, I still have about 12 fruitlets remaining on the tree. I would assume that a few more may drop, but even if I lose half of what is left, that would still be around a 10% fruit set.

I know that key lime and some smaller citrus like kumquat and limequat are said to be "prolific" producers but didn't know if that was related to prolific blooming (but still a fruit set of 1-2%) or if they actually have a higher % fruit set compared to other citrus.
