Yes, we kept the flooring, but stained it a dark (Jacobean) color.

That's beautiful. I love how the benchtops, matchstick blind and wall timbers add warmth to the white.

I love your new kitchen! How has maintenance been with the butcher block countertops? I love them, but have been worried about maintenance with them--especially around the sink.

very pretty kitchen. love the open shelving. good for you for knowing what you liked and for going for it!

Huge improvement. The open shelves are a great choice as they give you storage without too much bulk. It feels much better than solid cabinets would have. (Open shelves also encourage you to only keep those dishes and objects you actually use....there is no hidden place for useless clutter to build up.)

Aleslunt, I love what you did here. We too had those awful cabinets in our previous kitchen. You really added so many great elements here. Re:butcher block around a sink. The only maintenance you need to do is an occasional oiling. We use food grade walnut utility oil that woodworkers use on bowls, etc. The water just beads off. And any grease that spatters around the stove just adds to the protections...though we wipe it off immediately with a soapy sponge. We don't cut directly on ours, but some people do.

This was the first design, color palette & total "feel" that I found that could actually work in my kitchen. Please don't hate me if I totally steal a bunch of your ideas!!!
