Kitchen Island design help please!

I need to figure out my kitchen island design. I did find a photo on here of one I like but only the back side so not sure the front can accommodate everything. I was scared to post picture for referemcee since it isn’t mine. They said it was 8x4 which will work in my space. It has Overhang and support post for seating on 2 sides 3 on long 2 in short. Here is what all I need on front of island and I wasn’t sure how wide the trash and drawers needed to be.

Sink 36

Dishwasher 24

Trash?

Drawer for dish towels?

Seating for 5 prefer not in a row

can I fit all that in 8x4? Would I be able to have storage cabinets on the backside underneath?

Sorry this is our first time building and I know nothing about cabinets. Thanks for any input!

Like Debbie said, you can fit a 24" DW + 36" Sink cabinet + 18" trash cabinet on the working side of the island. With the 4' depth, two people can sit along the short edge, and 96" (island length) - 15" (knee space for short-side seating) = 81" which means you also have space for three along the long side.

At 48" wide, you have 6" left over between the sink and the long-side seating (assuming 18" depth for seating)... not sure that's deep enough to do storage (plus the pain of accessing under the counter...)

Are you redoing your kitchen or just adding an island?

Many people measure wrong for the island so I would suggest posting a layout of your kitchen with some dimensions so everyone can guide you as to whether it really will fit or not.

Garbage units are typically 18" - so if you add that to your other items plus a 12" overhang you should be able to fit that in an 8ft island

You can do a simple 12" overhang as well and fit a stack of drawers fro your dishtowels. Also , quite often you don't need a 36" sink base - you could go to 33" and still get a large sink... You should be working with a designer to help you with this

in a 96" island you could have 12" overhang, 18" trash cabinets, 33" sink base, 24" DW and 9" end cabinet for cutting/board/trays.

with 4' deep I would either add 12" deep cabinets to the back or add legs to support the overhang.

It is a new build and with 8x4 we will have 48 inch clearance on short side by fridge and front side facing range. The other two sides arent close to anything by 5’ and would still give us a straight path to master. Sorry I’m at work and don’t have plan right now. But I like be the info you all have given me. I like the look of post makes the island look like a table.

Minimum recommended seating overhang is 15" for counter height seating. Listen to Damiarain.
