They reseed like crazy in my shade bed. I am in N. TX and they are up but not blooming yet. I never feed or deadhead & they bloom well into fall here.

Texas is a lot different than up here in the northeast.

Girlnamed..., good to know I am not behind, obviously not a proper comparison, but what I gained by starting early indoors is probably lost with the difference in growing zone.

Ken, I get what you are saying but it adds up to 16 weeks from sowing (they actually took about 20 days or more to germinate!), deduct 2-3 weeks and it's still too long. In comparison, my mimulus was this size and blooming after about 4 weeks! Anyhow, I am looking forward to them getting bigger and better with time. The parents were more than a foot tall when I got them last fall.
Susan, it is probably going to be hard to keep up with deadleading. My very similar mimulus seed heads do not appear to deter their blooming. Luckily, many of the torenia have succumbed to rain and soggy conditions so that many fewer to deadhead.

getgoing, I am zone 8A so we are not that different. Mine have been up for about a month so we are not that far apart. Hopefully, yours will reseed next year and there after. They do not come up until we are good and warm so be patient.

Girl, zones are based on temperatures. They don't take into consideration rainfall amounts, snowfall, tornadoes, humidity, sun strength, daylength, etc. So Texas and New Jersey may have similar temps but very different climate conditions. Plants can be perennial in Texas and annual in NJ.

I'm envious of your longer growing season.
