Emtek Hardware — Opinions?

Has anyone used Emtek cabinet hardware? How is the quality/how does it hold up? I’m liking their “geometric” line and ordered a sample which has a good heavy feel but knowing nothing about this brand nervous to pull the trigger and order them...

Thoughts? Alternatives? I really want something with sharp lines/square as that is a common theme through the kitchen design...

I've heard good things about Emtek and I really like those pulls!

The only Emtek product I have is my front door lockset. I like it a lot. Solid and well made.

We used their glass cabinet knobs in several rooms. Looked at many brands. I thought Emtek had the nicest.

I have Emtek door knobs throughout my house and LOVE them. I didn't find an aged black color in their cabinet knobs I liked, but they were the first place I looked. Door knobs in flat black and crystal/chrome have held up beautifully for the last 8 years.

Oh yes..we also have the Emtek doorknobs in matte black. So far, so good.

I’ve had it in my last two houses with no problems. I think it nicely made

I've used Emtek hardware and have been very happy with their products. I think they are a good compromise on cost and quality. The Emtek products aren't inexpensive but they have the look and feel of more expensive alternatives.

If it’s for pulls or knobs, and there’s something less pricey that appeals to you, go for the less expensive. You’ll never know the difference. If it’s for door sets probably worth the difference.

Yes! We have had Emtek in our last 2 houses, locks, knobs, handles, etc... great quality!

We had 3 Emtek lever units - 2 passage and 1 multipoint, and they were complete junk. Literally tossed in the garbage. Replaced with INOX which are great.

I agree with Strategery. My Emtek front door knob had the knob come off after 1 year of use. The set screw was minuscule, but could not be replaced with a larger one, because a larger one wouldn’t fit. When I contacted Emtek about it, they said I could only go through the place I bought it, not through them. Fine, the place I bought it was a certified Emtek seller. The first thing they asked me—I mean the FIRST—was “did you replace the lock cylinder”. Yes, I did. I live in an area where burglars commonly pick front door locks when no one is home, so I replaced the simple lock cylinder Emtek provides with one more difficult to pick. “Then you’ve voided Emtek’s “lifetime” warranty, and we can do nothing for you.” Really? Emtek expects no one to change a lock for the lifetime of the front door knob? And the knob coming off in one year is OK with them? I then phoned Emtek again, and they verified that is their policy, no exceptions, good-bye.

This was a weasel move of Emtek’s. The “lifetime” warranty is a bait and switch. I expect that if you have any problems with their cabinet hardware, they will have a way to weasel out of those warranties too.

And by the way, my locksmith who I’ve used for 17 years, who used to carry Emtek, no longer does. Too many customer service issues. Perhaps Emtek was once a good company, but no longer.

Warranties on any product are generally not worth the paper they are written on. The co will figure out some way to weasel out of replacing or making things right. its not right.

We were planning to buy this Emtek lever set in flat black for a new patio door:

Has anyone had this particular model? Will we be disappointed?

Mary Elizabeth - please read what Strategery and I each posted just above.

Checked out the INOX website. Nice looking quality, unfortunately, it's all very modern & contemporary styles, nothing that fits with traditional.

But thanks for the heads up regarding Emtek.

I used the very Emtek pull you posted a picture of and loved it.

hermothersdaughter, thanks! How long have you had it?

Purchased 7 and just installed one and noticed there is a gap between the handle and rosette which is noticeable to me. Did anyone have the same problem?

    Same experience as Qin

We did install the Emtek matte black lever that I linked to above. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the quality. I will be surprised if it lasts a year.

Already planning to replace it with this one from Schlage:

All the finish comes off of these "premium" knobs. These are 7 years old and outside of the 5 year finish warranty. 24 of 30 knobs in our home both interior and exterior currently need to be replaced due to failed finish. The 6 that are still good are the inside of doors rarely used. Spoke to the dealer and Emtek as was told they are out of warranty and cannot be refinished. This is thousands of dollars in knobs. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE>
