Never had one, but just wanted to say how beautiful they are and have been

Geraniums are tough -- you shouldn't have any difficulty dividing or transplanting. It may sulk for a short while with the hot weather setting in but should survive just fine. If you can wait until fall that would be best, though.

I've never planted any of them; they came with my wooded lot.

They are easiest to transplant in early spring. Now that they have already bloomed it's not as big of a deal. Sometimes when I transplant things with a lot of growth I cut them back a little. The Geranium leaves all arise from the crown so instead of cutting back the stem, I might remove a few of the oldest, biggest leaves to decrease the strain on the roots. I need to move a few wild Geraniums into other spots too.

This particular one is now in full sun since my neighbor cut down a huge oak tree and it tends to turn yellow & crispy in summer. I guess it won't hurt to try and move it.

I guess they were not happy with my dry soil because my 2 efforts at growing g.maculatum have been identical fails. Never grows an inch, just goes slowly backwards until it vanishes.

My Geranium maculatums have handled dry shade during droughts quite well without watering. Maybe it likes our cold winters. They always emerge very vigorous.

Campanula, I don't know how wet your springs are in East Anglia, but here, we always have wet springs. If you were able to keep those Geraniums well watered until they got established it might work.
