Suggestions for a light please

I need a suggestion for a light to hang over the sink in the kitchen. This will be a ceiling mount light. It's a nice size window,36wx48. The countertop is flush with the sill. The ceiling in the kitchen is only 8 feet, so not a tall light.

The cabinets will be dark dark green. The countertop is white fantasy granite. The backsplash will be light grey with splashes of apple and orange.(the mockup doesn't show the actual tile colors)

Haven't decided about cabinet hardware yet, so feel free to make suggestions about that too. Am thinking brass or wood or black.

I would like brass or black for your hardware and brass or wood for your fixture -- they don't have to match. I'd probably lean brass hardware and wood fixture if you find the right things. What kind of budget or price range do you have in mind? Any other lighting in the kitchen? Breakfast room, family or other adjoining rooms?

Thanks Lascaux, I hadn’t thought about a wood fixture. There is a wood pendant planned for the entry but it’s not visible from the kitchen. The great room is recessed lights, and lamps. I can’t decide if I will do pendant over island, it’s a bit asymmetric . Waiting for an updated rendering.

    Something like this?

There's a larger version, too. Not sure if it would be too big.

    Having a copper around

is better security than any smart gadget you can buy, but your food budget will go up.

Becky Sharp - I do like the Folk Abigail, I wish it was a bit less expensive. That would be at the top of my price range for a light fixture in this spot.

JTL - TY - those lights are very cool, but too dear for me.

Margie, I hadnt considered copper for hardware, I dont think I want to use copper, I dont have it anywhere else in the house.

localeater, I know. I almost hesitated to post the Abigail because it's so expensive, but I thought it would be helpful to see if you liked it, to see what sort of look you're going for. What do you want to spend?

Hi local, my picks are too dear for me as well. However, they could just be inspiration as there are usually similar things cheaper out there somewhere.

Hope you keep us posted here on the progress. That is one cool kitchen.

How much I can spend on the pendant over the window depends on if i go for pendants over the island too. My designer thinks I should not. He feels that with only 8 ft ceilings in the kitchen it will be too much for the clean lines I want, and suggests we just stick with recessed lights over the island. I need to decide this relatively soon; I am pretty sure I will defer to him on this. Sometimes it just takes me a while when I had something firmly entrenched in my mind.

If I do not do pendants over the island the Abigail is definitely in budget. I like her curvy softness. The kitchen design has a lot of strong linear elements, and I think a soft curvy component is needed for juxtaposition. I do wish it was a little longer.

There is this which is sort of similar, and metal rather than clay so perhaps a little more sturdy for a kitchen, and longer (10" and 14" versions),

If you want a fixture or pendants over the island, I would do a flush mount or recessed can over the sink. That's what I have -- came with the house and I have a fixture over the island.

Just looking at one wall, it's hard to tell whether you could do both. It might be possible with the right placement, size, fixtures, etc to create balance. Think of it as seeing if you can create one lighting statement rather than two. If not, I'd be inclined to have the fixture over the island -- but again, it's hard to tell with just one wall.

Make sure they are easy to clean.

I apprectiate all of your input. I do understand it is difficult to get the perspective with just the one wall mockup I made. I will update this thread with the renderings showing the different perspective when I get them: it will still be a few days.

Over the sink, I definitely want a flushmount or semi-flushmount, not a pendant.

This is the fixture Becky first posted, and I do really like it. You can even see it over a window in the kitchen in the second image!

I had to think long and hard about putting pendants over our island. We did decided on recessed instead. Our island is actually the center of our home, hanging out there most of the time. I use all sorts of tall candle sticks, right now there is a huge bowl filled with tall orchids, my point being if I had 2 pendants hanging there, all of this would be way too busy. I think no pendants makes for a cleaner look. Love all your choices and can't wait to see your new renderings.

cran, that is an excellent point about tall decor items. I have this issue on my current island. I guess I didnt think of it because the tall things are wintery- lol
