Eden (Pierre de Ronsard)

last modified: 7 years ago

Eden (Eden Climber/Eden Rose 85/MEIviolin/Pierre de Ronsard), a large-flower climber, bred by Jacques Mouchotte (France, before 1985) and introduced in France (1985). I plant 3 Eden as a privacy screen, and they work beautifully. This rose is very healthy in my garden. It has moderate repeat. Helen

Your Edens are gorgeous! I love this rose -- if only it were fragrant, then I'd really adore it. Apparently it likes the west coast of the USA, because it does very well for me in Seattle too.

Wow, what a gorgeous display, Helen!!

I think Eden might like the West (it thrived in LV... full sun). I share your sentiment regarding fragrance or lack thereof, K S. It would be high on my current list if had fragrance...

And this is when I have serious climber envy! This is just an outstanding wall of Eden. I love the pergola/trellis with this rose. Just gorgeous, I would love to look at that daily!!!

WOW Helen everything about this rose and these pictures is spectacular. Your pergola is amazing and this rose is fabulous. Could you please share a bit more info on the other roses showing up in your picture, they are all amazing. Also I am sorry I keep asking everyone about their camera, but could you please share which camera did you use to take these pictures, they just look super professional.

Your Eden are incredible, Helen! It is one rose I give a pass on fragrance because it is beautiful and generally healthy.

I share HalloBlondie's sentiment. It's so hard to get climbers to climb in colder zones. My 5 yr. old Edens are now up to eye level, and gaining height this year. Every bloom is thrilling to me.

I can only echo others' comments; your first photo is superlatively beautiful. The pergola is fantastic on its own, but to have it festooned with these hundreds, if not thousands of blooms puts it into a category all its own. The addition of the yellow and deeper pink roses is perfect to set off the lighter pinks of Eden.

Bayarea_girl, I have a question. How do you prune your Edens? That may be a silly question, but I don't know very much about climbers, and as much as I would dearly love to have roses overhead, that part of it baffles me.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. The beautiful first pic is the work of many people that helped me making it into a reality. I'm standing on the shoulders of giants! My dad built the the pergolas, and my husband helped. I planted the roses but have acquired a lot of knowledge from friends in this forum and many others online/offline whom have taught me so many things about roses and photography. So, thank you! You're the BEST :)

Dianela, here is a pic with the rose names. I use Canon T5i camera. It's an entry level DSLR camera. Its LCD screen is a touch screen so you can easily navigate the pics and zoom in and out of a pic. The current model in the market is Canon T7i.

Ingrid, you are so good at describing things into words, you should be a writer. Your works will be beautiful :)

floweraremusic, I just followed Paul Zimmerman's method of pruning climbers. He makes everything look easy. Here is his video of pruning climbers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf7F5qhChFM

A major dose of Eden envy. Would love to spend days and nights looking at those blooms. I will “bloom shaming” my two Edens.

    Thanks everyone.

farmerduck, I also do that sometimes. I look out one of the windows and see this rose curtain with a smile on my face when they are in bloom.

Wi-Fi, mine are from Star Roses, too. For my grafted Eden, they look best when they are in their 3rd+ year. Mine in their 5th year. It's great you have White Eden which is a sport of Eden. Please share pics when it blooms. Helen

I had to come back to this thread; it's such a joyous thing to see. Thank you also, Helen, for giving us the names of all the roses in the picture. Golden Celebration is another wonderful and lusty rose that makes a great climber. I keep pondering where I could possibly place one.

Helen , I know I complimented you on Instagram as well but I finally found a grafted eden today at a nursery!! I was so excited ! Especially after seeing yours , and Bens has always thrilled me . Now i have no idea where to plant such a beautiful rose but I’m excited. It even had one bloom on it for me lol .

Ingrid, that's the best thing about taking pics. The rose flushes come and go but once we capture them we can look at the pics all the time :) You are right about Golden Celebration. It's a great rose. It reminds me of Julia Child with an English rose look. With your garden design skill, I'm sure you will find the best place for it.

Lilyfinch, I'm still laughing when I remember your comment on Instagram, haha... Even though Eden has moderate repeat, there's something about it just make me thing of romance, love, and weddings. Can't wait to see your pics when you decide where to plant it in your new home. Helen
