Breakfast nook/dining area

I have this extended breakfast room, in addition to my formal dining. We used to have a large dining table which was never used. I would like to convert this to a reading/lounge area with string lights and plants but with a small glass round breakfast table as well. Would this even work? Please help. Thank you. Yes, the curtains will be changed :)

I like the idea of string lights and plants, but for reading you might need better lighting. Could you put a wall of bookcases along the right hand wall.? I can't tell if there are more windows there, or a wall. Here's a photo of a library with string lights that may inspire you. I rather like the draperies with the plants and string lights.

Two reading chairs and an ottoman near the windows would work for daytime reading, or at night with a floor lamp. There would still be space nearer the kitchen for a bistro table and 2 chairs. Buy tall plants and some shorter ones too.

I love that library idea. To the right is a patio door so unfortunately I cannot put any chairs there. Do you think I could fit 2 chairs to the left and a bistro table next to it? Would the height between the 2 be an issue?

So perhaps you'll have low bookcases around the patio door, with the 2 chairs and ottoman

opposite that door. Then the small table and chairs go in the middle. It looks like a large space.

Could you give us the dimensions of the extended breakfast area, width and depth, and also tell us how many live in this house.

Hi Rsh Grge, On the left hand side of the space where the wall is 7'3", you could fit a 24" round bistro table with 2 smallish chairs, angled so they look toward the door opposite. Then you have a space of approximately 9.5' x whatever space there is between front window wall and the door

on the right wall, (probably 3.5') for two comfy reading chairs of no more than 32 x 32", with an 18" round table between them.

If you'd like a breakfast table for 3 or 4, then figure on a 36" round table on the left with 3 or 4 small chairs, and on the right only one 32 x 32 reading chair and a round table of 18 to 20" beside the chair. Once you get the furniture in place, you'll see what kind of space you have left for plants. Fit in low bookcases where you can. Ikea is an excellent source for the bookcases.

All those lovely Pinterest photos are grand! and inspirational. But in the real world, Rsh Grge can only have bookcases below the windows, and she probably will not want them on all the windows. It's true that she could have them also above the windows, and if she or hub is a carpenter, that could happen. But in the world where most of us live, she can have those bookshelves below the windows, and then in time they may turn into toy shelves. But she can certainly have plants and string lights for now.
