Help with old garlic not ever planted

last modified: 7 years ago

I posted this on Facebook & then thought I would also post here as well. Over 2 years ago, I bought several varieties of garlic to plant. I put them in the refrigerator until it was time to plant (zone 8). However, before I was able to plant, the pre-cervical cancer cells came back & this time the doctor recommended a hysterectomy. By the time I was able to do any planting, it was too late. So I thought I would keep them in the frig till next time. And then my twin sister got breast cancer so I was taking her to all her appointments which were an hour & a half away. So there was just never enough time in the day.I haven't opened all of them but I'm sure they are all going to be as dried up as the one I did open. This is going to be so stupid but I'm going to ask anyway.....can I stick them in water & maybe hydrate them enough to plant? If I cannot plant, what can I do with them? We eat alot of garlic (mostly the large jars of minced & chopped you get at the grocery store) so I was really looking forward to trying to grow my own. My husband is on oxygen so he can't help much & I learned from my surgery not to expect help from family (yet they were telling me they would take anything out of the garden I gave them???). I have a blender, dehydrator, & small coffee grinder so I thought about doing something with those maybe, but I really prefer to plant if possible. The varieties I have are Burgundy, Texas Rose, Ajo Rojo, & Rose du Lautrec.
