Black swallowtails are the most unpredictable eclosers/emergers of all the types butterflies I've raised. I had one that emerged 18 months after it pupated. In my experience, the green ones all emerged early, with the brown ones being the unpredictable ones, some early, some very late. Yours look healthy - they'll emerge sooner or later.

Thanks Sherry. I'm glad to know that you think they at least look healthy. Well, I guess I should just go buy another clothes hamper and set up another habitat. This could take a while.

I was very surprised this morning to find 1 Black Swallowtail had emerged from the 2nd group. It had been in the chrysalis for 28 days. It is the 1st of this 2nd group to emerge.

There is a combined total of 30 chrysalides for both groups still left to eclose.

I'm just wondering if I have done something to make them stay in the chrysalis for so long in the middle of a Florida summer???

I don't think you've done anything to cause this, it's just the unpredictable nature of black swallowtails. Congrats on your beautiful butterflies! I see one's a female, and the other's a male - that's great!
