Well, I’ve lived in many many houses (military)and have always been able to disassemble the oven doors/refrigerators too...BUT I certainly don’t know your ovens. If your installers put them on then I would bet they can be removed. You usually get a parts schematic with your appliances...it should show part numbers/ names, etc...just an idea if it really bothers you...

I am not sure how I feel about this, as if I am going in the oven I likely need a pot holder anyway but just never heard this and can't find one person mention it in reviews. I also then wonder if the heat is escaping enough to make the handle hot, is the heat escaping and effecting baking times, quality etc. Just wondering if you noticed this at all with yours? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Wow, the doors don’t seal like a standard oven? I’m not a pro, but it sounds like heat is leaking out, impacting baking quality, wasting energy and heating up the house. For a brand new fairly $$ oven? That doesn’t sound right to me.

My thoughts exactly! He says it is in all cafe doors not just the GE, that Viking has the same issue (although he says not as bad)

I have the french door GE cafe and LOVE IT - it is so easy to get things in and out and you can open doors one handed as both doors open at same time. I cant imagine have a traditional drop down door ever again

I have the Viking French doors and the handles do not get hot at all. I love it same as what deb s said - you can open it one handed and very easy to get food in and out. I would never go back to a drop down door.

I have the GE Monogram and the handles do not get hot (or even warm for that matter). I can’t imagine that hot handles would be normal for the Cafe and not the Monogram ....seems like a defect to me.

Okay this is part of the other post and just makes the whole thing more confusing IMO as for the little piece of copper if this is all you have to worry about you need to get a grip its like a Tshirt with a logo BTW I can see the handles getting hot if you have the bottom oven running I do not like that feature at all just a nice french door oven and forget the bottom one waht does it do anyway maybe just get a simplel one and add another oven somewhere else.

What Patricia brought up is important (hadn’t realized that the OP was discussing a DOUBLE oven). The oven I have is a single, so maybe it’s different with the double oven (heat escaping from the bottom oven and heating up the handles of the upper one).

To those saying it wouldn’t bother them, you’re missing the point. It bothers some people. The new GE Cafe appliances are designed specifically to allow customization of the colors to your kitchen and personal tastes. Why would GE then force a color (copper) that couldn’t be changed or removed? It REALLY stands out, especially in a white kitchen, with stainless appliances, and no other copper. So the questions remains, Has anyone been successful in removing the copper GE CAFE logo?

HU- To be fair, the OP ASKED if the badge would “bother you.” So answering that question is not at all missing the point.

I too was put off my the cuff and had my heart set on that line for the double oven with cafe doors and at the store I asked the guy if I could take it off and I can't remember exactly what he said but he seemed to have a lot of knowledge on it telling me why (how it is attached and or what others have tried etc). I have not pulled the trigger on mine yet but am telling myself I won't even notice it after a while.

It's not a deal breaker for me.

The copper band is horrible. I only bought it because the salesperson assured me that it could be removed; unfortunately, I have not been able to do so. Yes, it bothers me and everyone else who has seen it.

Order a replacement handle set, replace it with the other left one, and be done with it.

I noticed it before I read your comment, but honestly it doesn't bother me. I think it's a beautiful appliance. You don't need the word on both handles.

We just decided on this double wall over for our new construction and the salesman said, “I’m not supposed to tell you but you can take the cuff off. You have to remove the handle with an Allen wrench and then slide the cuff off and reattach the handle”

We recently installed our GE Cafe French Door Wall Oven. I've used it once and the heat escapes out from the bottom of the doors. The GE repair guy came out and said the doors are installed correctly. And it's designed that way to keep the cabinet from overheating. I'm not sure about all that. And we weren't really impressed with the 'knowledge' of the guy either. Has anyone else had an issue with that?

@slange29 That does not sound good, I am about to pull the trigger on my order so following. I wonder if you could check the internal temp and see if it is cooking at right temp internally?

@Karen Lee The repair guy put a camera in the oven and said the 'doors were closing properly'. I'm trying to get more into and the builder is going to call the GE rep again on Monday. I'll keep you posted. I'm really pleased with all of the appliances we have, just question the wall oven

I heated it up last night and it seemed to be better.

Personally, I like it. But I like asymmetry and things that add interest. A little touch of bling never hurt anything.

I think it boils down to what you like or don't like. It is not our oven in our own homes. It must have bothered you enough to post about this. Can you just paint the copper to match the rest of the handle? This could be an option if it bothers you.

I think it looks fine the way it is, but again this is not my oven in my own home.

I personally love the look. I have ordered all GE Cafe appliances but they are taking forever due to Covid. They were originally supposed to arrive in October but now are delayed until end of December

@SIDLER® Thank you. I tried googling it as well and that's how I ended up here. I have been cooking with the french door oven to test it. The handles never get hot, but I only have the one oven. It's under the Advantium oven and above the warming drawer. The heat escape is less but the doors still don't seem to seal when the doors close. There is a little wiggle in them. I mainly notice the heat escaping on Convection Heat. Not as bad as it was, but it's still there. I'm contacting the showroom where I purchased it and have them run it down 🤷🏼‍♀️🤞🏼 I'll keep you posted.

Re the single handle copper cuff-you don't wear a matching wedding ring on the other hand do you?

slange29 - You are welcome. In my opinion of there is heat escaping from your oven (convection), this is not normal. Definitely contact the showroom and see what they say. When I have time later tonight, I will try to do some more digging to see If I can find something on google. If I do, I will send it to you. Keep me posted on what the showroom says.

I like the asymmetry. What would bother this SHORT woman more is the inability to read all the dials and displays so high up at the top of the double oven. (I have a Kitchenaid double oven and didn’t realize that there was an automatic choice of 350’ on the display. For months I punched in the temperature I wanted. Then, I happened to be on a bench when I turned the oven on...and voila! There was a whole new world of commands to learn! The joke was on me.).

Hello slange29 - Thanks for reaching out to us, this is a great question! I'll be happy to clarify for you. It is normal to feel some heat leaking around the oven door. The oven requires some airflow for even baking and therefore does not have or need an airtight seal. I hope this helps! - Trey@Cafe

slange29 - Hmmmm... I have never known any oven that requires air flow where heat has to or will leak out when in use. Is your oven still under warranty? Thank you for the update.

By the way, I was not able to find anymore information about this. I only found this one forum, but the critical comments about this oven were not about any heat leakage.

@SIDLER® Yes, it's still under warranty. We've had one repair guy come out and said it's fine. My husband was home at the time, not me, and said he wasn't very confident in the guys assessment. I may have them come back out... as long as it's not the same guy. I'll keep y'all posted.

slange29 - Okay. Good to know it is still under warranty, I would have them assess it again, but ask to speak the manager of the department to assign a different repair person.

I have been considering the Cafe appliances for our kitchen update but find the Cafe copper cuff on handles to be a distraction... Enough so that we might pass on these... However, I was looking at this at an appliance showroom and the the copper cuff appears to have a set screw on its underside.. This just like the set screws which attach the handles... It appears that loosening this set screw would make it possible to remove the cuff... Has anybody tried this? Just take off the handle with the copper Cafe cuff, loosen the set screw and checked to see if the copper cuff will slide off?

It surely would not bother me. It is so small a detail that in weeks to come you won’t even notice it❣️

I agree. I assumed the 'detail' was advertising the company name and THAT would offend me. Can you just get a tin snip and remove it?

GE says it is not removable... I find it to be a distraction and we don't want to "get used to" a copper tag on on all stainless kitchen after spending thousands of dollars... We might go with Monogram instead-- or will switch kitchen to KitchenAid appliances

I was just going to suggest going with monogram instead. I have the French door and love it. I also have a Wolf range and find I use the GE oven much more than the Wolf ovens.

I saw the copper ring online and liked it, until I saw it in a model home and it was really shiny and noticeable. It was quite jarring. I want to add my own decorative touches, not have it forced on me.

How do you like the monogram appliance? On consumer report the cafe french door oven is ranked number 1 but I hate the copper cuff and have monogram lined up for my kitchen. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Super happy with the Monogram. I have a 48” Wolf range as well and i barely use the ovens…I much prefer the French door. No bending, cooks evenly, works flawlessly, and looks great. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

To those who asked: Yes….You can easily remove the copper cuff from the handle. We bought stainless Wolf/Sub-Zero/Cove appliances with “Pro“ handles for our kitchen, but wanted the amazing Cafe Advantium microwave (with Pro handles) for the coffee bar area in the kitchen.

We do love the Advantium. However, we were disappointed the emblem/cuff was copper instead of stainless, and there isnt even a stainless cuff option available for special order. The company claims this copper cuff was intentionally designed & ”jewelry inspired”. The copper cuff clashed with our other Pro handles, so we removed the cuff in five minutes with two allen wrenches. Looks much better now and matches our other appliance handles. Monogram/Cafe should offer the option of a discrete stainless cuff. Not everyone wants ”jewelry” on their appliance handles.
