Do you have any newly bought this year plants? If so, neonicotinoids could be to blame. Neonics (pesticides) were outlawed by the EU, but are still legal in the US. Obama outlawed their unseat wildlife reserves, but Trump rescinded that. HD labels its plants if they have been treated with neonics, but many suppliers do not. My local nurseries could not tell me if their plants were treated or not.

Bumble bees in particular are known to have a relative incapacity to deal with hot weather. Climate change more than any other factor has diminished their habitat and reduced their numbers. They just do not/cannot adapt and die off.

If you have been experiencing hot weather - above 85F for any length of time - that could account for the disappearance.

Well, I did see a few out there yesterday evening, and this morning there were a handful buzzing around, too -- not a lot, but at least hope is not lost. Still think it strange that there was an abundance of them just a couple weeks ago...
