Snowball is a pretty one. Cardinal Desire looks good. I had considered Tonto's Expanding Headband, and it looks very good in your garden.

Thanks Kay! I don't have room for any more plants this year. In fact, I'm looking to move out about 200.

Cardinal Desire is one I acquired last year. It is just now blooming and blooms are not spectacular yet. I hope it looks like yours next year. It was a fall acquisition. And Summer Snowball was also acquired this year. It took a while (and your photos probably) to get used to the unique patterns and colors on this one but I am glad you recommend it. Empire of Desire is always so pretty and yellow!! And of course, Dearest Valentine is lovely as always. I am thinking I probably need it!!!

So many great lates. I absolutely adore Summer Snowball, remember it from past seasons! Dearest Valentine is showing off again, love it. It’s great Ms. Chamberlain decided to show up again, it’s a keeper. Oh my, removing 200, that would be my whole garden, more power to you, that’s a tremendous undertaking !

Sitting here is a puddle of drool. I can't choose ......the only one that doesn't ring my bell right now is Hanna Marie and I am sure if I saw it in person that one would be lovely too. So so pretty , your neighbours MUST be very envious.

Kate - I hope Cardinal Desire shapes up for you. What do you mean about unique colors on Summer Snowball? I know it's described as mauve purple in the registration, but it looks either lavender or purple to me. I find the flower very appealing, and it's always performed better than I expected it to do. SS also reblooms a bit in my garden. I hope it will in yours too!

Heather - I was thinking about putting Hannah Marie on the move-out list, but it looks so much better this year, and it has an instant rebloom scape coming. So it gets a reprieve. I can't help but love a late that reblooms. It extends the season so much!

Sorry, Debra, suppose I should have detailed more what I meant about SS. I have seen it in a couple of gardens and the colors have been different in each one. Your color does look good but is also different than those. I am hoping mine looks more like yours!

Lovely pictures! My favorite continues to be Dearest Valentine. We grow Cardinal Desire too, but it hasn't started blooming yet.

I know what you mean about trying to downsize in favor of seedlings. We find our greatest joy is looking at the seedlings. It's amazing how they develop and improve over time.

Summer Snowball is amazing! That is my kind of daylily.....beautiful AND a Late Bloomer! If you ever need to thin out your clump of it, I'm here for you....lol.

I didn't make the connection that this is close to the end of your season and these are all late blooming plants. It is always wonderful to find late bloomers that are not yellow . Seems the season starts off yellow and ends yellow and so being able to find good growers that are other colors extends the season so much further !! And who doesn't want that ?

Heather - This is the late part of the season for me. But not everything I posted above is a late. The only lates are Cardinal Desire, Summer Snowball, El Desperado and Hannah Marie. The others are mids or ML.

Have never heard of Summer Snowball. Does it recurve like that as a rule? I worry about rust from Schreiner's. I spoke to them about their winters right after they purchased Maryott's daylilies and as expected they aren't cold enough to kill rust. I'll stick to their Iris for now.............Empire of Desire is one of my favorite yellows of yours. Always enjoy seeing it. Hannah Marie is pretty too.....Maryl

Maryl - I've ordered from Schreiner's last fall, and none of the plants had rust. . I got Summer Snowball the last year Maryott was in business. Did Schreiner say he sprays for rust?

I talked to them even before they got their daylilies in. The customer service person didn't seem to know much about daylilies, so didn't know if they would spray or not. Spraying doesn't do it for me anyway. As soon as the spray wears off the rust reappears if they have it. That's why I asked about their winters......I know Bill had rust as he personally told me so, which is why my concern about it transferring over to Schreiners when he sold them his stock......Happy to hear you haven't had any rust from Schreiners though. Was your winter cold enough last year to kill any off if you did get some in from them?..............Maryl

My winters are always cold enough to kill off rust. Multiple days at 32 degrees or lower will do it. We usually have several days in the teens or lower that does the trick. I just wondered if Shrieiners had active rust and was spraying for it.

I like the Summer Snowball. Reminds me of a Rice intro I have here. I see it is a Carpenter dormant so it should do good here but alas, sadly, no room to add. Nice group Debra. I always enjoy your pics.

I have a couple of plants from Florida and from northern greenhouses, in quarantine at another place, that are now showing rust. On a fall order, I don't think one could tell whether the plants had rust (if they were treated at all) until a few months later. Last year you posted a number of pics of The Color of Wonderful. It is actually blooming here, but I haven't seen any pics from you. Did you delete it?

As for seedlings, they are sometimes interesting to look at; sometimes, not. One drawback is that there are no pictures from others for comparison. Moreover, the poster usually doesn't list all the specs.

Mantis - I would never delete a plant as good as The Color of Wonderful. The bed it's in has tall grass growing in it and is more shady now. As you may remember I had surgery in early May and wasn't able to do any weeding until recently. Most of my photos come from the front garden, the border on the side of my house and the seedling bed. I have also failed to get photos of Landon Lee and Royal Cypher that are favorites but grow in that grassy bed. I need to move them all to better sun exposure now.

Plants that are treated for rust normally break out in rust in six to eight weeks without reapplication. I received the plants from Schreiner in early September, and they were showing no rust by mid November. I have a very small order coming from them in September again.

If you don't like seedling pics, don't look at them. Scroll and roll.

I like Summer Snowball, it looks like a late I need. I was thinking of ordering a couple of iris from Schreiners, might as well add a daylily. Did i say i was downsizing? But the iris are rebloomers, and what is one more daylily, since they will be shipping anyway. Good reasoning, right?

Nancy - That reasoning makes perfect sense to me. Summer Snowball is a great late. I'd endorse it for president, if it were a person. LOL
