I would not use a steam cleaner on wood.

Its a terrible idea. You will kill your floors. You will void any warranty on the product and installation. Have you tried using a wood flooring cleaning kit?

Steam cleaning is a No-No on wood floors. And it does NOTHING to 'pick-up' dirt. It just blows hot steam onto the floor and then evaporates...leaving the dirt behind (dirt does NOT evaporate like water).

Vacuum (no beater bar), vacuum, vacumm and then right after that you can vacuum. Once all the vacuuming has been done (you may have to use the suction hose with a soft brush attachment meant for baseboards/furniture to get out some of the dust in the bevelled edges) you can then use a 'damp cleaning' with a pH neutral hardwood floor cleaner and a microfibre mop.

If this sounds like too much work, you are welcome to hire a company that deals EXCLUSIVELY with post-construction clean up. These are the people who usually clean up the mess in office buildings/etc after a large demolition or after a a fire/etc. They will get in, get it clean and then get out.
