I personally would always go with the lightest color carpet I can get away with. That looks best. I know the darker color hides the stains. I have off-white wall to wall carpeting in my entire condo, and it's in a type of material that is indestructible! I have a cat and I've spilled everything imaginable on this carpet. I've had my condo for 20 years and the carpet has never been replaced. If you get indestructible carpet, you won't go wrong! Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, look at internet reviews for recommendations.

I agree. Go as light as you can, and get the best quality you can afford. Shorter denser pile is usually better than higher pile carpet.
