backsplash, sink, window help

Suggestions please. What can I do to improve this?

Too vague -- what do you dislike, what problem are you asking us to help you solve?

I'd personally get rid of the piece of wood trim over the window, which is pointless, and I'd wish I had an undermount sink, but that ship has sort of sailed. Is something here not working?

hello, I would replace the sink to stainless. What is the purpose of that piece of wood that spans between the two cabinets? If you removed that

Also Im not sold on that light fixture, I love it , but I'm not loving it...

My first thought was a stainless steel sink as well. I would also replace your window covering with something that has a bit more texture like a bamboo shade or linen roman shade.

    Love your light fixture!

Well I think we all agree here lol.

You can have that 33" x 22" sink pulled and a 33" x 22" sink undermounted. Easier than most with the frameless 36" cabinet you have:

Can't always control the reveal; you get what you get.

Concur with removal of that bridging board and changing pendant to flush mount. Is that a window opening that has been boarded over? If so best thing would be to remove the frame/sill and Sheetrock it in and hang open shelves between cabs or put up a great piece of art. If that all sounds like too much trouble I would at a minimum get the small things off windowsill and put larger scale decorative things there.

The light fixture is black and white in your beige and cream kitchen. It’s interesting, but not in that location. Everything is beige and cream!
Remove all the dinky trinkets from the windowsill. Remove the pale window shade. Add a colorful print fabric roman shade or roll up shade on the window.
Color may be the answer to your problem.

    It’s screaming for some color.

the positives are the textured tile inserted in the backsplash for interest...the neutral palette....the NOT screaming any particular style....If it were mine I would place only two or three colorful larger pottery/ceramic things on top of cabinets. I would replace black and white pendant fixture. For the light: depending on what you gravitate to.....a sparkly fun hanging fixture, or a colorful fixture. Anything that rests on counter in that area that has a purpose.......see if it can be found in color...canisters? toaster? soap dispenser? Not sure what needs to be around this counter zone for you. I would remove the smaller trinkets and curios from the ledge. I would avoid removing the bridging trim for now, as it has nice detail, it can hide a curtain rail if needed later, and if you go with a hanging fixture it is a backdrop which can work with choices. If you change sink and faucet go high styled: this is a nicer sink area than many.

Thanks for all the comments. The pendant light is blue & white stripe and I love it. I’ll get a longer pendant to clear the bridge. The bridge was added a few years after the cabinets. The ceiling is a high vaulted ceiling and the bridge made it look better. But something still looks off. I think it’s the window area, specifically the sides and bottom area between the window and sink. It’s always bothered me. It just looks unfinished. Should I add window trim or remove the bottom apron trim? I was planning to change the backsplash anyway, should I tile up on either side of the window instead? If I removed the bottom trim maybe the height there behind the faucet would look better? My hubby insisted on a top mount sink and I was talked out of carrera marble that I always wanted. Definitely a colorful shade. Or a bamboo shade with colorful side trim. But what about the window?

Add the trim to the sides and top of window. Should be easy to do.

Sounds like you are wanting more substantial trim around the window, which is doable. I'm sure beautiful window trim will ease your feeling of it looking unfinished. If you do that I would definitely remove the bridge above since it covers the top of the window.

I still say remove that bridge. It actually might make the pendant look better. If you plan to change the backs plash that,s a whole other thing, ( I see no need to replace it ).

We might change to a SS sink and remove the wood piece between the cabinets. Then you can hang a lovely roman shade on the window.
