Thanks for introducing me to this series. Most roses if you deadhead them will give repeat Bloom although if yours is new it may decide to put down some Roots first.

Also if you see a shield rose for sale grab it. I did for Canada's 150 and I have covered it up with burlap every year and one year the leaves were actually trying to poke thru the holes in the burlap :D Soooo took it off. Grew higher so cut it back to 3 feet. Lady at coffee said due to my not cutting it back more won't get any flowers on it. I said oh yes it will and to back me up it did too!!! Lots and lots of blooms on it:D Will get a picture of it and post it here. Went out this evening and cut off all the dead or spent roses off the campfire, the At last, the double pink knockout and the Chinook Sunrise ones. Took a picture of my Always and Forever Rose. One of 5!!! Strike it Rich rose is getting its bud bigger and has a 2nd one on it. Here is info on this one in case you are unfamiliar with it.

As an aside, I don't understand how the 49th can have a website about their rose collection with only 1/2 a photo.
I would love to say it's a beautiful rose, but it's like looking at it through a peephole!

Nearly everything in this world is born with a way to reproduce. Roses do this with flowers. If the flower is pollinated it generally will produce seeds. Each rose is a bit different of course. A once flowering rose will only flower one time no matter what we do to it.

All of the other roses can be dead headed for additional bloom. If the potential seed pods are not removed eventually the blooming slows down or stops. The rose will become satisfied and concentrate on developing the seed.

Every variety that you have mentioned will flower more when dead headed.

I have to say I’m a bit underwhelmed. This is mine, with my hand in the picture so that you can see how small the blooms are.

The flowers quickly fade to pale pink as seen below:

So grateful for this update and photos. Nearly forgot my rule to wait for garden photo. I was one that fell for Rainbow Knockout. Another rose that was a mess and rarely the pretty color it was shown to be.

I also had a Rainbow Knockout but it died on me and so did the drift roses along with the Lizzie, my sunny and red knockout roses. I bought a peach drift rose to replace the one the so called gardeners took out that time after it survived the winter. The two ladies in our building and the one lady's husband have taken over the entire garden out the back and at the side the little one where mine used to be. But due to their being constantly moved without my approval before they took over the popcorn drift one and the coral one both died on me as well. We transplanted the peach one to the garden out the back and it is trying its darnedest to make a comeback as it produced about 2 little flowers on it and some leaves. Soooo hoping it can recover. The rest of them are doing great. Better than what my tomato and zucchini plants are doing. Will have to buy burlap this year to cover them up with since the year before last lot I threw out. Bought some burlap type plant covers for some.

Karen, do you have an update on your Chinook Sunrise? I’m liking this rose more and more each year. The individual flowers are underwhelming, but the overall shrub has quite a presence (and fragrance!) in my mixed border. The scent wafts atleast 10ft away on a hot and humid day. Mine got chomped down to the ground by rabbits this past winter and is currently attacked by tons of rose slugs and sawfly larvae, but still looks so happy…it seems to thrive on abuse and neglect!

Fragrant, hardy, and full of bloom-power! Tina, you make a good case for having Chinook Sunrise in the border!

Just bought a Chinook Sunrise for my balcony in zone 5.5. Do you have any tips for overwintering. Do I need to cover with burlap in my area?
