Wow yours is so lovely! You get lot nice pastels and orange cream on your LOS. Mine gets darker colors like corals, bronzes, yellow reverse on the petals.

Sometimes I get the pastels and I love when I do..but she definitely likes to show her wild side too lol. I think she is one of the most beautiful Austins. She gets very tall here and is very black spot resistant.

Helen, how to you keep her so small. Mine is a newly planted last fall, own root, but it has been acting like a climber. I pinched the tips off two canes that shot up after the first spring flush was over, but now they have 3 shoots each and continues to shoot up. I hope she fills out. She 4 feet tall today. Maybe I should pinch back these new shoots too, in order to keep her branching out?

Lovely pics of Lady of Shalott, Helen. I love her colors! My Lady is not thriving in the spot I planted her in several years ago--maybe she needs to be more regularly watered. I'm hoping mine will reach the stage of beauty yours display.

I feel as though I've never properly seen or appreciated this rose until now, Helen. After Jin's comment I wonder whether it's a rose that darkens in hotter climates than yours. The blooms remind me of orange sherbet and strawberry ice cream mixed together.

Stephanie, many David Austin roses turn to climbers in zone 9. David Austin lists LoS both as a shrub and a climber. Mine is in a narrow raised bed so that may slow it down a bit. Don't you want to grow it as a climber?

dublinbay, roses love water and sun especially multiple-petal roses. If they have don't enough of those two, they will be just on survival mode.

Ingrid, it's possible. I noticed many DA blooms start out with darker colors and become lighter as the blooms age. Helen

Wow.... yours is LOVELY. I have this one too, but mine is never as "orange(y)".... must be the temp here.... I wish mine would take a hint..... and perform like yours!

Helen, you got me thinking that if I put an obelisk there I could let it climb. DH won’t allow any thing to be attached to the house’s brand new stucco.

Thanks Sharon. In the beginning, I wasn't crazy about LoS (I got her from Wayside Gardens sale in 2016 for $14.48) but she is so healthy that she won me over.

Stephanie, I think it's a good idea. Please share photos when you have it done. Helen

Stephanie - a lot of Austin's like to throw out those "octopus" canes, especially in zones 9/10. If you don't want them disrupting the balance of your shrub, just chop them off - in your climate, the rose will be fine!

mine tends to get really tall and I just kind of cut it back to keep it the shape I want but it is full of blooms and they change from dark Orange to beautiful pinky tones like sherbert

Helen, How old is your LOS? Mine has loose petals and not full and beautiful like yours?

Mine is 3 years old and grafted on Dr. Huey. I think when the weather is getting cooler, the blooms will open slower and in cup form. Helen

Planted one in zone 7A this spring. Leafed out just fine, grew about two feet tall, not a single bloom. Reasonably sunny spot, no competition.

Nadya I think we have to be patient. i planted 3 this spring also in zone 7b. They are on full sun and have grown over 3 feet and have had a few blooms with loosely arranged petals, nothing like this gorgeous rose Helen has. I think 3 years is the magic number here.

mustbnuts, I love you LoS photos. Do you have any more good photos of your flowering pomegranate blooms? I really love them and have been thinking of getting a few. They are so pretty! Do you know the name of the variety of flowering pomegranate that you have?

I am very happy with my flowering pome. I have had it for a few years and finally did NOT listen to the advice given to me not to feed the poor thing. Once I fed it--guess what?--it bloomed for the first time! Flowers last forever on it. It does not make any fruit as the flowers are so double, bees can't get in to pollinate them. Wish I had the space to have a couple more of them. My neighbor next to where the tree is planted is delighted with it. The variety I have is called Ki-Zakuro

Hi friends, I need some advice on Lady of Shalott! I planted her last year and she's already huge (like over 4' tall and wide). I have her on a trellis fence and my idea was to tie her sideways like a climbing rose, as I hear she gets very big. My question is: do I prune her like a bush rose, or like a climber?

I would prune a bush rose halfway down, but a climber not at all...

I prune mine like a weed lol

It gets 2 serious hair cuts and a couple of trims per season and it keeps a perfect shape . It grows right back full of blooms so I have never felt heavy handed.

I keep mine at about 6 ft.

I also prune mine like a weed! There are a couple of obelisks on either side of the Lady and just yrsterday I wrapped some around the obelisk and then the front I pruned like a shrub.
