Odd Croton Budding

I bought a croton from Walmart back in February. I live in central Canada (Saskatchewan). It seems happy enough, it has pretty colours and gave me two new leaves out of the top in the spring but now hasn’t done anything else. today though, I noticed it has a new bud/leaf forming just above each branch.. has anyone seen this before?

Looks like back-budding to me. This is most commonly stimulated when the growing tip is damaged or removed. Any sign that that happened?

Either way, I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, rather it's desirable as it will give the plant a lusher and fuller appearance.

The top is not damaged, in fact it is preparing to open 2 new leaves finally. it doesn’t seem stressed to me otherwise so I’m hoping this is all good stuff. New growth is always exciting :)
