The ripple effect is referred to as 'hand scraped' finish. Some people like it...others do not. Only you can decide. It will give hickory (which is already considered a rustic appearance) a rustic appearance. It will be a 'bump up' of rustic. Rustic on Rustic, if you will.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. When we built a home several years ago we were told that pre-finished 3/4” floor was more durable than an engineered floor. Do you have an opinion if that is still (or ever was) true?

Again, we are looking at a Mohawk hickory 5” pre-finished floor. In the other house we had Shaw 4” chimney rock flooring and I absolutely loved it. My grandson rode his ride-on toys through the house all winter and we had no issues with finish at all. No scratches, no scuffs. I’m hoping the Mohawk will be as good.

Regardless of the brand, Mohawk or Shaw, if they both have the same type finish, being a pre-finished floor, and both are hickory, would it be safe to assume we will see a similar performance in wear?
