Guest room decor

Trying to put together a guest room. I know I need art above the bed. And some accent throw pillows and blanket. What do you think of the nightstands? Are the lamps too small?
Any help would be appreciated.

Lamp on table should measure up to this chart.

I would like your room... toasty and intersting nightstands. Maybe simple like this -- to repeat amber-brown of stands?

Imagining sunshine in photo here, I could see a slight metallic in pillow - idea... or bring the mountain animal straight out of the photo onto the bedding...

Love those bedside tables, the rug, white bedding. Looks great. The lamps need to throw enough light for guests to read in bed before falling asleep. Do they? (Not that you asked, but the dresser looks jammed in there in current position, so close to bedside table. Maybe remove dresser? You dont want house guests to stay so long they unpack do you? :-)

    Thank you all!
Yes the dressers will go. Just brought those from the old house. Realize we don’t need them, and put them in the guest room until we can get rid of them.

Nothing wrong with the nightstands. I think you need to work on the bed a bit! This doesn’t look very inviting. Taller lamps that make a statement and are more conducive to reading in bed. An alarm clock . No personal photos. Side drapery panels to soften the space and art. Can’t see the rest of the room but a comfortable chair is always nice and I always provide a folding luggage rack.

Try to make the bed as inviting as possible! Buy the best quality pillows you can afford. Same with bed linens; iron the pillow cases and the top sheet( I do about the top half). Look at photos of bedrooms with beautifully made beds! Fold the coverlet or duvet down and add a beautiful blanket at the foot of the bed. I use four pillows; two on each side , stacked . Then euros in front. Lots of different combos but your bed should look luxurious!

This is a nice size room , you can add a lovely bench to the foot of your bed!

I'm wondering if the bed/night stands would fit on another wall - then you would have room for some floor-length draperies.

It just needs some tweaking! You can add side panels; just pull out the nightstands a bit from the wall!

    Oops, forgot the bench;)!

Larger lamps and these days, I make sure there is easy/obvious access for charging devices. Sometimes in the lamp ;-) In general, lamps should have enough presence to meet the headboard. Usually this means they are about as tall as the headboard.

Often, I simply flat stack two pillows on each side and use one long lumbar as an accent or two Euros. I think we all "over-pillowed" for a while there and as a guest, I prefer not to have to move and remove all the darn pillows. Especially if the only place to put them is on the floor because our stuff is all spread out on the only available surfaces. A luggage rack is a good idea,so is a bench.

Your room looks like it is coming together really nicely. I would want to soften up the windows, maybe a faux roman if those are permanent shades. Also, usually I don't put family photos in guest rooms but it depends who the guest is ;-)

Thanks everyone. Just had the in laws here, hence the pics of the kids on the nightstands. Makes them smile to see the kiddos.
I appreciate all the help. The room is large and we definitely have room for a bench at the end of the bed and a chair or sofa in the room. I will get more pics of the room after we finish with dinner!
    The inspiration pics definitely help!

Nice photo doesn't show right now, but didn't someone show curtains pulled over toward walls? Nice and trim looking for a crowded wall.

Hi.... you mentioned a throw.... items there [inc. shades] have straight lines, so I thought of these lines, but ruffled nicely. In other colors:

For duvet cover you could try a soft blue or robin's egg blue - and a tweed pillow:

looks good so far! the lamp size is just fine, IMO. my two cents:

keep knicknacks to a minimum. drives me crazy when guest rooms have so many tchotchkes that I don't have space to unpack my small stuff. take the framed photos off the nightstands.

consider your guest's travel needs, such as outlets on both sides of bed, a place to park an open suitcase, things like that. maybe some earplugs, tissues, etc in the bedside table drawers?

are those shades blackout? if not, consider adding curtains.

I believe that nightstand lamps should be at a height to read comfortably. Those are too short.

Mixing neutrals you already have [your floor and stands have pattern so no pattern, or little amount could be nice].
