Bathroom ceiling in a "colored" bathroom

We're remodeling bathroom and I'm contemplating painting it some shade of pale green. Is it better to have the ceiling the same color, or a matching tone of "white"? The bathroom is long and narrow (~11 ft x 4 ft), with an additional 5 ft x 3 ft shower alcove added to width at far end. The shower alcove will be tiled with a warm white large format ceramic tile. It's not a large master bath.

I would probably keep ceiling a matching tone based on your description. Green sounds like it comes out of nowhere in particular for the bathroom.

I do like a subtle color on the ceiling of a room. It is a nice place to put some color in an otherwise neutral space, or introduce a second, complimentary color.. But if your walls are going to be green, then I think I would opt for a white on the ceiling to match your tile.

Painting the ceiling a color is a fun and unexpected way to make a room interesting. Just keep in mind that the color on the ceiling will make the walls look shorter and that's why you should have a lot of white or off white in the bathroom, walls, tiles, etc. Also having natural light in the room helps. You can also add other decorative elements of green to play off the ceiling color like small plants or artwork. Choosing the right green will be key. Good luck!

If the walls will be green, paint the ceiling white. A little green goes a long way.

Thank you all for your comments. The bathroom is a lot of whitish (large hex tile floor/large format tile shower alcove, and a white (long double sink) quartz vanity counter/also top of pony wall). The vanity is oak. All the fixtures/vanity lights are brass (aged). There is a window at the far end. I thought just off white walls might be too much white, although I guess I could change that with wall "add ons". We live in a country setting, the house is a shrine to mother nature : ), so that is where the green comes from.

Some inspiration for green walls. You may not have thought about wallpaper, but the second photo is gorgeous I think - and you can see what the colors you are describing look like together.

Look at the color Transparent by Valspar. I used this on my kitchen ceiling. Although on the computer it looks like a grayish white, and Valspar calls it a cool white, in my north facing room with blue-green (Valspar Antemeridian) walls it actually appears warmer and not gray at all. Get a chip if you can find one -- I got mine at Ace Hardware.

Green walls with white ceilings to maximize the height.
