Front door with sidelites what is the most appropriate way to trim

How should the front door be finished? What makes the door standout more?

Option #1: Should the sidelites and trim between the door and sidelites be stained.



Option #2: Just the door stained and trim with sidelites white.

    I typically prefer #2, sidelights being treated as the windows/trim. Depending on the house and door style, #1 can look good too. When I look at photo 3, the thin, vertical trim in between seems to give a less cohesive feel.
