The worst thing the painter may have dropped in there is a putty knife and I suppose the tip of it hit the surface. But looking at blancos video, they show dropping forks and knives and such and the sink is supposed to withstand that. jist not sire how we got these little chips and the scuff. and the scuff didn't come off with BKF.

It shows “white” for the same reason that the unpolished edge of a stone counter is much lighter. The rough texture of the scratch reflects light in a more scattered direction than does the more polished sink interior. Polishing things creates the impression of a darker surface, even though the sink itself isn’t highly polished and is only a matte polish.

I‘m surprised that your GC didn’t protect the sink and counters as soon as they went in. Electricians can have heavy sharp things, and painters who should know better to use the outside water, can often make their presence known negatively. A piece of plywood over the sink and plastic/foam protection over the counters, is part and parcel of the service that every good GC that I've worked with would do.

Your GC owes you a new sink, and to handle whatever it takes to make that happen. He figures out which trade to backcharge for the damage. But I’ll bet he remembers to protect the sink and counters in the future! Big hits to the pocketbook are often learning experiences.

Cooks Kitchen. actually I did see the painters covering the sink. taped it off with paper of some sort. but may have happened before they covered or after they removed. I dunno. electricians were there the day prior but these spots were not there after them.

oh and no water was used there. we don't have plumbing hooked up yet.

There is another thread on the silgranite sink that says to use Barkeepers friend for the scratches. I have a silgranite sink too and chips cannot be repaired.

Jo, do you have cinder color by chance? I've seen other threads of people who have cinder and chips. Can't see that color would make a difference, but kind of interesting. My little spots are teeny tiny, but annoying on a dark sink.

Jo, actually I think chips can have colored epoxy put in them. in my case, I would need to apply with the tip of a toothpick. They are teeny!

Hi Ellen, the thread about cleaning scratches with Bar Keepers Friend is called, Silgranite Scratched. It is still active so you can read it. It is working for the person who is doing this. Someone suggested a sharpie for the chip in my sink, but I cannot find a colour that matches the anthracite. Where will you purchase the epoxy and will it match the sink colour? Thanks.

Jo, I will look for that thread. I don't know about the epoxy colors, just had read that you can do it. am kinda hoping Blanco will have more info about that. They have a customer service department. they were real nice when I called today about scratches. still hoping that's all I have and not a chip. might be something stuck on top of surface.

Joseph, really? I do use sharpie on my wood floor when i get a scrape. hmm, if I find out this is indeed a chip, then I may try that. Tomorrow we are gonna look more closely and see if it might be something stuck on top. workers were drywalling and texturing near it. I saw them cover it but at some point they uncovered it because there was debris in sink when I came home home. I'm a bit concerned if its a chip, cuz from what I understand, they are pretty hard to chip. really can't imagine even if they dropped a putty knife in there, that it would have done damage. gonna try again to clean tomorrow, then maybe the sharpie. (do they make dark gray?lol). I really don't want to have contractor replace the sink. such a pain.

I've heard conflicting info about whether a chip on silgranit should be white. I called Blanco CS and they said it definitely should NOT be white. they asked for pictures and they are sending to their warranty dept. my husband looked with his magnifier this morning and confirmed they are chips, not something on top. we shall see what Blanco says.

Keep us updated Ellen as I am interested to know what they say. Hope you get some assistance from them.

There will be no damage to the counters replacing the sink. The tops will not be moved, however, the sink cabinet front may have to be removed and replaced. Not a big deal.

Joseph, why does the cabinet front possibly be removed? we have no clips. We have wood supports. when I saw them, I wondered about them, but it is a method, per Blanco, when the clips are too long for the specific installation. I hope it clips that would necessitate the cabinet front being removed. then maybe we wouldn't need that. thank you for ringing in on this. I value your input.

Wood blocking to hold a sink is junk; it shrinks and pulls on the silicone seal.

Were I called to your job, I'd beat the scratched sink to death then back out the blocking. I'd install a Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or a Sink Strap or two (Regent Stone Products) then strap the sink in place, the superior method.

If the sink wouldn't dunk, I'd tap the cabinet front off.

We had remodel done one year ago and had white Blanco sink installed. Had one chip and color is not white under the surface. Its like a sand color . prior to

this we had a black Blanco sink for over 12 years and no issues with chips. I am buying mats for both bottoms of sink basin . This should not be happening with normal use of diswashing.

Avoid Blanco They don’t stand behind their product and lifetime warranty is useless
We have to replace ours and it’s less than 2 years old

Absolute garbage. Replaced our blanco sink after 7 months, I had to pay for labor, they gave me free sink however I’m stuck because i can only put blanco sink in its place and the new one has already chipped! We haven’t hardly used it! Labor to remove install and material is over 1000 so now what do I do?
