I think knobs usually look better on uppers with handles below. There’s no hard and fast rule though. I used handles on both for personal comfort, but sized proportionately to the drawer size.

Use pulls on all if your goal is contempmoray.

Nobody can help beyond that, unless you provide a kitchen plan with dimensions of cabinetry

I have pulls on my drawers because the motion to open a drawer makes more sense with a pull. My wide drawers have two pulls and my narrow drawers have one pull - these are horizontal. Narrow drawers have pulls centered and wide drawers have pulls more of less at each end of the drawer.

My doors have knobs (matching the pulls in design) because the motion to open a door requires a knob. I have seen doors with pulls placed vertically but I liked the combination of knobs and pulls with my cabinets because they worked both aesthetically and functionally.

Mine are not slab doors though - you might configure them to see what you like before committing to a final choice.

IMO if you want contemporary no fun knobs and all pulls as simple as possible I also never like 2 puls on a wide drawer so stick to pulls that have many choices for size and do pulls that are in proprtion to the cabinet a mix od vertical and horizontal is a good idea.

I went without hardware for several months until I decided . If you're not good at visualizing and willing to wait a bit, use painter's tape to emulate either pulls or knobs. Stand back and let it sink in. I have only 4 cabinet doors (only on the bottom, I have NO upper cabinets) and I did put a small knob on them that is the same profile as my single long drawer pulls. It's fine and very calm visually.

I prefer pulls on ALL! A wet or messy hand can open a pull with ones pinky finger. With a knob, there will be a mess to clean up or one must wash a hand first. I also like uniformity vs business.

Knobs have a tendancy to cause more wear & tear with everyday use due to grabbing the knobs user's fingernails will lightly touch & start to scratch away slowly the paint on some of the most used cabinets. If get knobs, get extra touch up paint with cabinets to touch up as needed.

I agree with the user who says knobs cause more wear and tear on the cabinet, Have found over the years that knobs have a tendency to catch on clothing- as do some pulls if they have long ends and are placed at that height where you walk into them. So just be aware of how you interact with your cabinets when choosing, even pulls. Good luck!

I like knobs on uppers and single pulls on lowers.

My husband, an architect & designer, preferred a contemporary & consistent look, so we chose pulls and installed them all the same horizontal direction. I was a bit worried they would feel awkward on the upper cabinets, but have been extremely happy with both the streamlined look and functionality. Here's a photo of our pantry. Best wishes to all.

How about tab pulls?

Buy 1 sample hardware before buying a whole set of hardware to see if you like them before getting stuck with a whole bunch you don't. Do a scratch test on back side to test the durability of the finish as well. If doing tabs, test the tab on every place you want to use to make sure they fit correctly.

Lizzy L, these tab pulls look great. And I was thinking about them... But, I cannot recall where and when in my life:)) they've caught and torn my clothes.

I feel completely lost in narrowing down the styles.. I understand that the handles if long should be approximately 1/3 of the drawer width. But what to do with 9" and 12" drawers? Most of the handles look nice when they long, but the short versions look blah. If I choose same shorter ones for all the cabinets will that be a mismatch on narrow and wide cabinets?

While still a”knob” you could opt for something like a t bar pull for doors. Very modern and clean

I like brushed light color metal on light color wood. I prefer handles to blend in to the cabinets rather than be the foucs in most circumstances. here's some photo exampless.

I agree with those saying knobs for uppers and pulls for drawers below. You may consider edge finger pulls on drawers that fit on top of drawer for your modern/minimalist look. Also, I have seen magnets on uppers that eliminate knobs all together.
