Ship lap doesn't scream traditional it screams farmhouse, too much of that going on IMO, if you want traditional, don't move to a transitional farmhouse/cabin look.

Rl relocation, I’m not really “traditional” in the classic sense. I’m more of a “new” traditional. I hear you on the shiplap-it’s everywhere! I don’t usually head for the big trends, but we are building a beach house (hopefully) and I think shiplap fits a coastal scheme. However I recently saw a cool linear fireplace with driftwood/rocks that I really love. You can’t get that combo with a regular shaped fireplace, which is how I arrived at my current dilemma.

So here is what we decided to do. First pic is the inspiration pic (not what we built which won’t be done for months). Second pic shows the intended placement of this style fireplace in the home (we will flank with cabinetry). I did pick a “linear” fireplace...it just isn’t all that long. Believe it or not, the inspiration pic is linear as well. I think it works!

Kim, I'd love to see what your end result was and which linear fireplace did you choose? We are in the same situation and struggling with the decision and design! Thank you!!

I ended up with a smaller linear version. It’s linear, but not over the top. Give me a couple weeks and I’ll have a picture.

Hope this uploads...I have issues on this computer some times. Took a lot longer than 2 weeks to get to the final of the fireplace! LOL. This IS a linear fireplace - just not "exaggerated" linear. I'm loving it, although I wish the stone people could have picked a BOTTOM corner for it not to match up exactly. Sigh.

Of course it didn’t load...hopefully this works.
