Drought Returns to Oklahoma

Here's today's Oklahoma portion of the weekly U. S. Drought Monitor Map. As you can see, in SW OK, the tan areas indicate the earliest stage of drought, Moderate Drought (D-1) while the yellow areas indicate Abnormally Dry (D-0) or pre-drought conditions. Without meaningful rainfall in these and adjacent areas, I expect the map will look worse next week. I believe this is considered a flash drought in SW OK because of the rapidity with which it developed after a wet winter and spring.

For anyone interested in the conditions in other states, here is the entire U. S. Drought Monitor Map. Alaska and Hawaii aren't looking too good!
