Color of furniture for grey room

last modified: 7 years ago

Just moved into a new bedroom and having trouble deciding the color furniture to put in it. i want a light and airy feel and because the room is smaller than my last is like minimal furniture. Ideally just a bed, nightstand and vanity. I love Plants and plan to have them in the Room. I originally Wanted a splash of color like royal blue or maybe rose gold. I have Existing pantings from my previous room but they’re black? I originally Thought of getting a black medal frame (canopy style bed) and a white dresser with black handles and have splashes of black but then I’m not sure how it’d Look against this flooring/ wall. The bed would fit in the space on be left of the window. (P.s any tips on how to deal with this ugly heater as well would be awesome)

Canopy bed in a tight room is a bad idea. The navy sounds good a tufted navy headboard with light linens/duvet could be very pretty.

i like the navy idea I planned on adding navy vases for my plants so it’d work well . What color would you recommend for a night stand and vanity?

i keep getting that suggestion and honestly I’m not a fan of the bed going against the wall under the windows because than I dont Know where to put the night stand.

I would suggest natural wood tones for the furniture, and use linens / curtains / art for a pop of color. it will be easier / cheaper to swap those things out when you want an update.

I think a tufted headboard in a blue shade sounds great. One thing to appreciate about blue is that various shades tend to blend together well. White or wood furniture or a combo....all could work. What size do you need for the nightstands? How much storage do you want in them?

    @BF something like this ?

(what do you think of this? It might be more royal than navy which is my only issue) im looking for a nightstand that’s on the smaller side, I have A decent sized closet and anything extra will be placed in storage bins under the bed. So maybe 2 draws max. I Planned on placing it under the window and didn’t want anything that covers it

Marlee, I like both of the beds. Which one is more YOU? Are going to put the bed on a window wall? Maybe built in storage? https://www.jossandmain.com/furniture/pdp/houchins-upholstered-storage-platform-bed-wnpr7648.html?piid=36086073%2C23800998

I had looked at that bed you just sent ! Only issue is it’s too low to have under bed storage . Both beds I like. If I did The first one I’d pull some

od that dark grey into a lamp and get a night stand the same color but than im

unsure what color I’d make my vanity. I’d probably add smaller ottoms

    with my accent color.

If I went blue id like to stick with whites and lighter colors so that the blue would stand out. The bed would mostly next to the window not under so I could Put the nightstand under the window and maybe a plan and picture frame

Purple is my favorite color so I like This lol. I was originally all for the white furniture but felt that it’d be TOO much white ?

If you’re going to store things under the bed, make sure it’s high enough off the ground to fit the containers you have in mind.

Is your baseboard heater hot water or electric? We’e painted all of the hot water baseboard heaters in our 100+ year old home the color of the trim (white in upstairs bedrooms; brown in lower living areas to match the quartersawn oak baseboards). It helps the heaters blend in much better. You could either paint yours white to match trim or gray to match wall.

i had understood where you had suggested. I just Don’t think I like the bed placed like that. I m putting a vanity where the foot of the bed is along with mirrors and I feel All that furniture towards the upper left side of the room leaving such an open space towards the front isn’t appealing to the eye (IMO) especially cause I planned on hanging the TV in that upper left corner as well

The vanity would go on that wall where my broom is located with art and a huge floor mirror would be going where that smaller mirror would be. I wanted to hang the tv in the corner and place a plant or corner shelve to have plants and little trinkets

If you pick a great color - your items don't have to display much detail and tufting, etc... with toasty floor, small room, it's great to use other dusty-soft colors...

that Pauletta bed is really pretty! I like the style of it for your room, but be careful with cheap online bed frames though. that Pauletta looks exactly the same as Zinus Suzanne (maybe they're the exact same product with different labels slapped on them). I had a Zinus bed and got rid of it after only a few months. the wood slats were too thin / saggy (my husband and I are not heavy). I swapped those out, but the frame also wound up being shaky / squeaky and I couldn't fix that no matter how hard I tightened those bolts. I've had two Ikea beds previously that were way more solid than that!

now I'm looking at Room & Board beds that have steel slats and are solid AF.

You can use bed riser if you need more under bed storage.
