You won't find one at that maturity level any cheaper, but since this one was grown poorly up to this point, you'll have a hassle trying to get it into a more upright shape so it will look better in future years.

If it was me, I would pass on this one and go with the smaller one in a 6" pot from your local nursery for $25. Everybody has them now with many more stems in one pot, and it's early enough for you to train it right. You could be maybe only a year behind that one with good care. :)

Cost would depend on where you are LOCATED and its availability, but frankly, I would not pay over $10.00 for that.

I got one in a 10"container from Lowes for $15 today. It was mislabeled split leaf philodendronm philodendron Selloum. Try your Lowes if there is one.

Nikki you asked about the "not grown well". This one was allowed to flop over and grow horizontally. Long term that will make for a very leggy, awkward-shaped plant that takes up too much room for the amount of green that it provides. These do much better and get bigger leaves when trained early to go up instead of out. Usually that's done with a moss pole because the aerial roots seem to like it; but it's also possible to train them up without a pole. Also this one needed higher light to get less leggy (shorter internodal spacing) and more "toothed" leaves like the huge Monstera pics you've seen.

Like any tropical plant, they like a soil mix with good drainage, but they prefer slightly more moisture than average. You'll notice brown edges if you go too long between watering. They also like more nutrients in their mix than average in order to reach their potential; so they grow slower in bark-based mixes or peat mixes without extra humus. I grow mine with 1/3 peat/coir (both provide air & water); 1/3 perlite/pumice (drainage & air); 1/3 compost (nutrients & water retention); plus some kelp/alfalfa meal for natural fertilizer, and 3 kinds of lime for a balanced ph stabilizer with calcium. They really love this mix!
