Are we even getting them in the US? There was some question about that earlier in the summer...

You mean about whether they would be available in the US? I don't know that it was discussed here, it was from a conversation I had with a kitchen rep at my local IKEA about a month ago.

I was hoping to do dark green in my laundry room. If these were coming to the US it would save me the trouble of painting or going custom. Bodbyn door style isn’t my favorite but I’d get over that in order not to paint! I guess we just have to wait and see?

I have a houseful of boxes of Grimslov off-white cabinets waiting to be installed in our currently demolished kitchen. I would consider returning some of them and doing my island (and possibly pantry) in this green if it is the "right" shade of green. Do the Canadian fronts/panels fit on the US boxes?

The boxes don’t change it is just the doors I have actually had Ikea cabinets painted for clients when they love a style but not the color. As for the color you would need to order a door to see it in person.

This reminds me of the old adage: "Everything old is new again". Green cupboards (or cabinets) used to be quite common in the early to mid 1900's, maybe late 1800s. My BF has always wanted a "grass green" kitchen. I'm not sure about that, but she says she saw an old house with one and fell in love.

I don't love the color of this green- I think they are too bright. I would rather see a little bit of a darker green.

I don’t know this for sure, but my instinct is that the Canadian boxes are probably metric, while the US ones are imperial, so you couldn’t use Canadian doors on US boxes.

I might like it in a room with enough wood.

When I bought my second house in 1994 or 1995, this color was popular. “Hunter Green” with burgundy was popular. Now it’s called “moody.”

I love the Ikea green cabinets in the OP photo, but agree with Patricia Colwell that it would be best to order a door to see the color IRL. And also to see how it looks in your space with its light/walls/dimensions/windows. It may not look like the green in those photos at all.

I’ve always loved Alice Waters’ green home kitchen. It is more of a forest green. Even in these two photos the green looks a bit different because the lighting is different. Love the hood and backsplash too.

There are not yet available in the States. Since a couple of days ago, a DARK GREY VOXTORP is available on the editor though.

I am considering the green for my pantry if it's not hideous in person. It does seem to be a little too bright for my tastes, though, but it's really hard to tell with online images that have been highly edited. I might would even do the lowers in the green and the uppers in white. I'm anxious to see them in person, though :)

I think that in your typical kitchen the green will look quite a bit darker and less shiny. Photographers tend to lighten their subject much more than can lights and UL lighting that's found in residential kitchens. I would think the variation of greens, depending on direct sunlight reaching them, are probably much more realistic in this photo:

OMG! What goes around, comes around. Those are exactly the color I painted my cabinets in 1985 - had them until 2003 when I repainted them a light Taupe. They were perfect with my Braunschweig & Fils wallpaper .

Just noticed that the green Bodbyn fronts are now on the IKEA USA site. I don’t love the door style, but could get over it in order to avoid painting. I will be near ikea in a week or so so will call to see if they have a door in stock to look at.

We actually went to the IKEA in West Chester, Ohio to look at these in person. *Moody* and *dark* are exactly the words I'd use to describe these and they are so fantastic. The heavy, saturated green reads a little brighter in direct light, but they are totally gorgeous.

I’ll have to see in person but I’d love to convince DH of the green. Maybe I could use them in a hall bathroom with some Asian-themed wallpaper that my son from China would use :) :) :)

The boxes all come from the same place there is no difference between US and Canadian except we get the measurements in metric . I am not loving that shade of green but green has never been my favorite color I think the idea of a bathroom might be fun.

They are all metric they are built off the 32mm system. All boxes are the exact boxes all you have to do is convert the measurements from standard to metric.

Have an Ikea down the road. They are forest green to me. Not as bright as pictures appear on my screen.

@icedana, Nice! Is your fridge extra wide? I am curious as why the cabinets above it aren't as wide as the fridge is.

The fridge is (I think) 920mm (36 inches?) and the cupboards only come in 200mm denominations so I ended up with 800mm (31.5inches?) for the cupboards and approximately a 120mm gap.

Curious if anyone else has a more elegant solution... IKEA kitchen's people (and I) couldn't think of one but I wouldn't be against changing those cabinets if there's a better way. (Perhaps I should have just bought a new fridge ;) )

@icedana, how tall all the cupboards above the refrigerator? I'm going to assume they are 40 cm tall (~US 15") so I wonder if you could use a 40cm x 80cm door turned horizontal that opens up. You might still need some filler on each side but it would be less noticeable than the larger filler you have now.

I would almost say that the 40cm x 100 cm would work but I think that would have to have been accounted for before the initial install. Even if you don't change it, the green is lovely :)

Hi icedana. As you're working with a set dimension I would just centre the doors and have a small filler panel each side. It will look like it is intended and match the filler panel on the other wall. Alternatively create an open shelf for eg cookbooks.

Hello Icedana, about that extra space over the fridge....I wonder if you could shift the doors to the left side so the "extra" space is on the right hand side and then just have it be open? A spot where you could stash really rarely used things in the very back and cookbooks in the front (to hide the stash) where they would be handy & accessible.

Do they not offer the over the fridge deep wall cabinet there? This is the one I was going to put over my 36” wide fridge.
