Please help, primulina with no roots...

I bought a linearifolia around the end of May. It was doing fine until about a week ago, when I came back from a week out of town. My grandmother had been babysitting my plants. They all looked okay then, but my linearifolia looked a little droopy. I thought it was heat. It came out of the pot today, no roots along the stem. I scraped it a bit, applied rooting hormone and replanted it in fresh soil. Would it do better in something else, like water? Please help, I love this one and I don't want it to die. Anyone have any opinions?
