If that table is the right size, it is a winner! It will work with the sofa AND the rug there.

The table in the picture is from restoration hardware and they do have a smaller version which would fit the
space better than the table there now

Definitely a round coffee table, it will mix up the shapes in the room and will always draw your eye back to the couch. A colorful vase of flowers would look nice and provide a focal point. If you had room for it, and a budget to put a sofa table behind the wall to the far left, you could get layers of interest in there, which would liven up the room. I would put an interesting lamp and perhaps the candles up there, maybe adding one pillar candle that has a bit of color. Adding in one simple art piece to the sofa table would be enough. You need a wall piece, look at your style and see what might be exciting to hang there. Textiles or something with a subtle pattern would be lovely. Good luck!

I wish I had room to move the sofa out for a table behind put as bungalows are charming they are very small :(
for the wall I was thinking of a shelf and maybe putting items on that a leaning pic etc

Sunshine, I think you have a winner in the round table Kelly posted, for all the reasons stated by Landscape, as well. It would flow better & be easier to walk around.
You do have some play behind the sofa - just - for a thin sofa table & lamp. Or no table, and get lovely art canvas with a picture light hanging over it, which would be classy. Home Depot has these lights for sure.

There is a picture light over this art work I used in a home. Hanging it behind the couch would ensure the wire did not show.
