Yardvaark, I think the OP has a slice of pie shaped yard, as does the neighbor. Usually narrower at the curb or street.

I would consider using granite Belgium Blocks embedded in the lawn along the property line.

I’ve seen a version of a hedgerow work in these situations. It’s both kempt and wild enough to fit into an American development. Low informal shrubs, perennials and grasses.

Ask your neighbor if they’d like some help with their part of the yard. Two pretty front yards are better than one and a row of rocks isn’t going to magically make their brown spots disappear

I was going to say the same thing as Donald. Are you friendly with your neighbour? Maybe they just don't care and would love it if you were to help fix it. Not sure of the size of the two combined yards, but talking to them could maybe get the ball rolling on a combined project.

However, if you are not friendly with your neighbour a garden or hedge to seperate may be a good idea.

Yeah i just looked back in this post. We had ours relandscaped and ended up adding a strip of concrete down the line. Really turned out great as i was starting to have issue with the neighbor. I had wanted to hire a official third party to mark the actual property line. But it took forever to find one and the prices and time it would take to get to our home expensive was forever. My neighbor claimed that more of the yard was his. Instead of argue we just halved the difference. Heres some word of advise, “If you want to keep a good relationship with the neighbor, make sure a third party does work on property lines and fences. You’ll save a lot of chaos and shenanigans.

gwackamoley, I used to make maps for the local appraisal district. I dealt with a lot of surveyors and their drawings. You are exactly right about getting someone else involved. Surveyors can tell you exactly where the borders are.

I wanted to post some photos of the cement strip and yard. It keeps it open yet delineated.

We had new concrete added before the landscape. The only thing kept in the yard was the tree. Before we had bad grass that took almost the entire front half of the yard.

I’m just wondering why you didn’t replace the bad grass with good grass? You have a lot of cement that is a non-permeable surface.

Since this topic has reawakened, I have a new picture of what my wife has been up to.

We wanted to cut way down on lawn watering, so we cut way down on the lawn. This was taken early last May before several weeks of rain caused everything to explode. You can see the steel landscape barrier we used around our lawn and between us and the neighbor on the left. The steel gives a nice barrier to edge up against.
