Put the bed back on the huge blank wall. That's what it was designed for. I can't imagine what inspired this change. There is no balance to the room now. You say you have a lot more space. What for? Are you setting up your gym equipment here? Is this the baby's playroom? Is there any other bedroom furniture here? I would pare down the clutter on the mantel, remove the etagere and put a chaise and low table and table lamp to the nook.

I agree. i’d move the bed back to the blank wall and remove those extra pieces. Soft lightweight curtain panels on windows will soften the look and make the room more serene in my opinion.

Thanks! That’s a cool function, love it. I love the toning down of items. The Ikea lamp from my college days can go, but my husband does a lot of work in the nook area so we need the etagere or something similar. I’m open to moving the whole thing elsewhere in the room. The rocking chair will go once I find a more modern replacement that reclines.
There’s no function for the dead space, just wanted to put a bench there probably, and have space to chase the babies :-) but yes they have their own rooms and we have plenty of space.
It definitely looks off balance to me, but I love that it opens the room up. I’m learning that the proper way to design/decorate doesn’t always fit with what feels better or works better to live with!

If Hubby needs a place to store stuff in the nook, replace the etagere with a low bookcase that sits under the window. You'll have plenty of room once you move the bed back to its proper wall.

Diana- I just love the feel of this room. The soothing colors and the natural light are beautiful. Sometimes when I move furniture around I get an immediate rush of contentment and satisfaction from seeing the room from a new perspective. Unfortunately this “rush“ clouds any objectivity and takes away from my ability to see it with a true design eye. I think objectively the room had proper balance and placement with the bed in its original position. You have to prioritize what is more important to you. From strictly a design perspective, the prior arrangement wins.
