I do love the houndstooth but I think you should revisit the navy blue for dining chairs..love the idea of something nubby like a corduroy:)...

The tall shelf would be for behind the blue plaid chair in the corner to the right of the fireplace. Something for that corner. The recliner is a brown with a touch of gray. Perhaps I need a whole plan on pulling this altogether instead of trying to do it piecemeal. Is that something you would be interested in? As you know I am indecisive and change my mind a lot ;).

No worries Karen we will pull it all together! Get the rug in and the furniture will need to be adjusted to fit the larger rug...work on the dining chairs..and wall art..than we can start filling in andmaking it your own:)

Karen keep me posted on the rug..I am so excited for you..it is going to look so rich and sophisticated!! Do you have a navy blue fabric in mind?

It may take up to a month to get the rug but I will let you know. The rug is not what I would consider a true navy blue as it has a bit of green in it (like a jewel tone) but I know you shared that different blues can be mixed.

The first fabric is a small tone on tone herringbone , difficult to tell from the picture, and the other is narrow corduroy and is soft. I like suede and velvet but I do not like the way their nap is often a bit "disheveled". I will need a to take the upholstery and rug sample to find something that complements these.

I saw pretty entry room with more delicate look than furniture in other room.... am I tiring you? Don't mean to - your room has at least 3 types of furniture - but you in person see it - would the size rug overwhelm?

You have the right idea of adding an area rug to make your living room a bit more cozy. One thing we suggest would be to go a bit larger. If you pace an area rug in the middle of a large space with no furniture touching it, it will float in the room and look small or out of place. For the chairs I think that it is really hard to tell from this picture but the corduroy fabric is on the left and the one on the right is a nubby texture with shades of blue and a bit of gray in it. It seems like the corduroy may be too dark but the nubby one too much texture. Another option could be new chairs from Pier 1. They are only $200 each and very comfortable. In the INK color. For the Austin Stone is the stone in this picture you posted Austin Stone? Should I seriously consider this stone? I was thinking just a half wall stone or should I consider a full wall application? I like the mantel.

I would keep your tile or stone below the mantle, as you have it taped off in your earlier photos. A whole wall of stone with your ceilings will overwhelm the space and make it seem off-centered.

Hi Karen sorry I have had a busy day..leaving Sunday for Denver...my daughter is getting married on the 21st..so lots of last min. Things to do....the stone in the image looks like a Austin stoned mixed with some other grayer stone..so many Austin type stones...the mortar color is important too to acheive that same look...I checked on Houzz..and designer thinks it is a custom mix But didn’t know exactly what mix?? But it s very close to a Austin stone...this looks very similar but you would want darker Mortar...I also love the warm painted mantle....I think a stone wall all the way up would be amazing and really give balance to the room with your awesome panels on opposite side of the room...it would draw the eyes up and really emphasize the high ceilings!

I have always liked the look of putting the stone to the ceiling so once again you have given me the courage to do it! It would be much less expensive if I purchased veneer stone or manufactured veneer stone and not have it project out on the sides. My husband and I have been set on building out a projection of at least 3" to 5" but it significantly adds to the cost. I have often seen where the veneer stone is just adhered to the drywall and has no projection (maybe 1 1/2" stone depth). Do you have an opinion on this?

No question the Austin stone look is the one! So gorgeous....no problem on the chairs..just loved the wood back detail....so interesting...price was really good $229 plus 15% off...I will keep looking..I do like the more contemporary chair from Pier One..maybe pick a couple chairs up and bring them home to see how they look...Pier One is great about that...easy return...otherwise I like a dark blue or a light gray fabric....I actually like a fireplace with no projection it gives a clean modern style mixed with the classic stone..really nice mix...than do a big amazing mantle! So exciting:)

These are examples of stone veneer adhered to the wall with no projection. This is using stacked stone with no mortar as opposed to the Austin stone with mortar. Stacked stone is so so popular right now but it is just ok with me. I LOVE your suggestion of " a fireplace with no projection to give a clean modern style mixed with the classic stone"! Do you think I would need more projection than this? Are you thinking this but in Austin stone with dark gray mortar? As you know my ceiling is slanted like the last picture.

This is too beefy and perhaps too much gray in the stone but it was one of the first fireplaces I saw that I really liked... perhaps the scale of the stone is just a bit too large for my space as the sides are only 16".

Hi Julie, I realize that I will not hear back from you as you are going out of town but I thought I would post my thought process. This is real veneer stone with a mix to give it some of the warmer stone colors. I think this is the closest to what you had in mind. and has a bit more of a projection. Kind of middle ground. Since this is real stone it is more jagged than the Austin Stone. The Austin Stone in this picture is cultured (fake) stone therefore they can get more uniform shapes. Thoughts? Thank you!

Don't use something that projects out into the room. Your fireplace chairs would have to be pushed forward, and you don't want your windows to look like they are in alcoves. Keep it simple, like your first photo above.

..we lived in Plymouth for 21 years and raised our kids there.....so all our friends and kids friends are from Plymouth area....my husband is from Detroit...and I grew up in Harrison..so family is all over the Metro area.

Have you decided on keeping your chairs or finding new for dining room?

I thought the same thing about us mid-westies! My brother has lived there for about 30 years. He has a house just off of Plymouth Road that he has been working on for 25 years as it is a huge house and he built it himself.

I looked at all of the chairs you referenced from Pier 1 but they did not work out for one reason or another. :(. I have the IKEA chairs and corduroy fabric but something is stopping me from going forward with this project. I do not have a lot invested in them, even with the new covers, so I may just settle in with them. They are solid but just ok on comfort. I like the fact that they are simple because the table and light fixture are so unique.

I am having a hard time sourcing the stone so have put that aside. Sigh

We lived there from 1987-2008..off beck road...we have so many friends that still live there...

The Pier One chairs are hit miss really have never found one that was really comfy or the right height for dining tables...maybe hold off a little longer..so many end of the year sales..maybe we can find a better quality chair that fits into your budget and looks great in your room...have you decided on new art for that dining room wall yet? Now that you have those gorgeous rich colors to work with from that new fabulous rug!

Hi Julie, I arrived home from visiting my daughter in Austin this past weekend! I thought about looking you several times as I was noticing the Austin Stone. Quite a variety of shades and sizes. I saw some near the homes of Zilker Botanical Gardens that was lovely. I will keep looking for chairs but am am hosing two large gatherings in mid to late October that I could use them for.

Have not looked anymore on the pictures. There is one local artist that I like his work but have not contacted him yet. I was wondering if I could do a collection of three or four large pictures instead of one large canvas. The one canvas seemed overwhelming to me but I did try to embrace it. I am looking forward to adding the bright & bold colors into the room.
