smaller tree recommendations for backyard corner?

any recommendations for a good corner tree? i live in Oregon zone 8a. we're getting ready to landscape the backyard and would like to plant some trees in the corner. i really like pink flowering dogwoods and western redbuds but was told both would branch out too wide for a corner spot. any suggestions is much appreciated. thanks :)
