Look what I found today!

I have prairie gardens across the street from me. There has been an over abundance of butterflies in my yard this season. I think I have a Monarch! How long is the transformation?

Cool! He's awfully exposed, though --- hope nothing comes along and nabs him for dinner...

Fingers crossed it survives, it will be on my daily watch. It was difficult to get this photo, there is an empty trellis in front of the chain link, had to maneuver my iPad between the them, extra protection?

What a wonderful sighting Sherry. Since it is turning bluish it shouldn't be too long now. I hope you get to see it emerging!

Thanks for the update. Somewhere between day 10-14 the green will become transparent and then things will happen fast.

Had some rain today. Another difficult to capture photo. There is a darkish line on the side of the chrysalis, difficult to see here next to the fencing shadow.

It should open anytime now. the wings will be small at first and the body large and then the body shrinks and the wings grow larger. it will take alittle time for it to be able to fly. My kids and I used to raise them, they are one of God's beautiful creatures.

I can not imagine an “over abundance” of butterflies {wink}. Love watching the monarchs emerge. Last year was my first time helping and I released 25 of them. So, SO gratifying.

This has been fun, Sherry. I have been sharing it with my grandchildren who had a gazillion questions every time with every new picture-which is fine!! Today's comment from the five year old: "Caterpillars are so yucky ugly but they sure know how to turn out pretty!" Thank you for keeping up with this and sharing it. It was very special.

I'm always amazed how something that looks so ugly and wormlike in earliest lifecycle transforms into something so pretty in it's final stage.

I mean I know that a caterpillar is essentially just an eating machine :)
