Actually, remove the cupboard then hang the piece of art.

What's going on with the wall there? Is there a weird angle? Is the whole cabinet weirdly angled in back?

I'm pretty sure the right answer is going to be "take it down." If there's an angle in the wall, open shelving could be tricky. If there's an angle where I think there is, you could either hang a large piece to the left of the angle, or multiple smaller pieces on either side of the angle.

Yes, there is the angle in the back. I’m checking to see if that wall can be opened up.

Since you are getting all new cabinets, you should have a plan for that angled corner. From this photo we can't see what is happening on that wall behind the refrigerator.

Right next to that angled wall in an entryway into the living area.

Do you use the cabinet? I see the dishwasher right there, where do you keep your dishes and flatware? I see the coffeemaker right there, where do you keep the coffee and filters?

Just wait until your kitchen designer comes up with the plan. Why bother doing anything now.

Put a single open shelf for your microwave in that corner -- clear a space on your countertop.

You might also consider making the wall on both sides of your sink an accent wall -- painted your favorite bold color.

That corner behind that cabinet may well hide plumbing and/or heat/ac duct and/or wiring.

If there's nothing "essential" behind the cabinet, I would open the window space to where the wall starts to cuts to the angle. If u have a designer, then I would think about what it is that I'm missing or would like to have and see if she can work this into your space.

Agreed that opening it up could be nice if you want a more open feel. Floating shelves could also be nice. Agreed as well to look at the practicality of it (coffee filters, dishes, etc).

And if you are working with a designer do check with them!

Remove it and hang a fun piece of art please get new lighting before anything is chosen LEDs in 4000K range will help with color selection and will keep colors true in all times of the day and night.
