Rex Begonia ... hybrid or species?

So, I have seen "Rex Begonia" and "Begonia rex". The latter, I know, would indicate a species. But what about the former?

If a vendor is selling a "Rex Begonia", does that indicate they are selling a species or is that term merely a "catch-all" term for hybrids which have some Begonia rex somewhere in their ancestry?
