Those are beautiful. Runner beans develop such long & smooth pods in the U.K. In my location, they will set during cool snaps, but the pods that form are shorter & misshaped.

I grow some runner beans here every year (Aeron Purple Star this year) but mainly for shellies, seed trading, and to attract hummingbirds. In the last cool days before frost, though, I can enjoy a meal or two of snaps.

I wish runners did better here, but no complaints. The climate here is sort of a bean "Goldilocks Zone"; just cool enough to bring runners to seed, just warm enough for most limas & cowpeas, and just right for "French" beans. ;-)

Wow, beautiful runner beans, floral. Mine get lumpy with big seeds before they grow very long. Maybe I need to try some different varieties. The hummingbirds do like mine though.

If you can see the seeds they're too far gone to eat green. Better to use them immature and short. I think there's a much smaller range of cultivars available in the US. We've found Streamline to be be more attractive but less tasty than Painted Lady, the runner bean I usually grow. PL is a bit shorter and not as straight but makes up in flavour what it lacks in aesthetics.

The runner poles are leaning drunkenly after recent gales but the beans are still coming.
