I found a lovely hairy caterpillar today in an area that had a lot of dogs and people. To stop the little guy from getting eaten I picked him up and placed him on grass through a fence. As i did this it some how got injured, I think the part above its head banged off the fence. A greenish / clear liquid came out of it and I assumed it had died :(

Before leaving I checked if i was dead and it was still moving. I took it with me so I could identify the species and place it in an area where it had food as it isn't crawling anymore. This happened 12 hours ago and it is still alive. Earlier I placed it on a dock leaf as it is a plant that it eats. I went out to check on it and it fell off the dock leaf onto the soil.

Should I leave it there or place it back on the leaf? I read that when they are walking in open areas they are likely looking for a place to pupate. I am hoping that it will pupate so maybe I should just leave it alone. I know that nature shouldn't be messed with., I only moved it earlier to stop it getting eaten and feel quite bad over hurting it :(
