Ugly light fixture

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we might do to this light fixture to make it look better. Or, should we throw it out and start over. It was left here when we bought the house. It is a beach house but this fixture is lacking.

I can appreciate what they were trying to do and I'm sure it was a conversation piece but I'm with you in that it needs to be changed. Either paint over the white with a metallic finish or paint the entire fixture one color. I'm not sure even that will do much but a can of paint is less costly than a new fixture. If it still doesn't look right, then it's time for a new fixture.

I am going to vote for start over. Lampsplus has a lot of really nice lighting in a variety of price points and it's pretty user friendly to narrow down your choices.

Buy a new updated fixture. Life is too short to try to make it look good.

I like the idea of painting it all one color. One cool color pop. Mod it up. If you don't like that, then start over.

I agree, probably for under $200 you could find a nicer one. You could always save the wheel, paint it and put it in your garden :))

Centered of swagged over the table. Maybe a drum? Light colored woven fabric?

Oh that helps to see where it is - it seemed like an entry light at first. Are you able to shift the table over so it's centered?

Hmmm...since it's over a dining table, I think I'd look for a pendant type lamp.

No if I do it is too close to the stairs. I had a bigger table but it took up too much room so I sold it and bought this smaller one. Still couldn't center it.

I think I would like a pendant over the table as opposed to a flushmount. Here's an idea from ballards - you can buy this rope pole for their chandeliers (I like the orb shown) which I think would give a beachy look without being too theme-y. You could also consider a simple globe pendant.

Love that captain one and the rope chandelier, mmilos!
How about a semi-flush (or pendant) in summery colors? It can pick up on the table lamp and glassware that you have in the background.

I love the globes but I can't speak to whether they are annoying in terms of glare.
The rope looks like it's wrapped around a metal pole so I don't think you can swag it.
Here's another idea with rope - more expensive but this can be swagged
