Sansevieria Wagner's Gold

Hello... Sansevieirias are my favorite plants and I have been growing them for many years. My Wagner's Gold did not survive a re-location and I am looking for a source for another. However, it seems as though my old reliable sources - Bob Smoley and Grigsby Cactus - are not offering them. I never see them on ebay or on etsy. Glasshouse Works is the only source I can find but $55 is out of my price range. Do any of you know of any source for Wagner's Gold? Thank you... JIM

    JIM,

If you get no responses here, there is an Sans FB page(s) to put your request on.

    Wagner's Gold easy to survive?

    R,

Easy to survive what environmental condition? The leafy Sans don't handle cold well, IIRC. I have had a spear-type Sans handle short freezes very well growing next to a house, but it doesn't grow very much.

Glasshouse Works is the only place online that I've seen it.

I found Wagner's to be pretty tough...definitely tougher than Sans "Gold Flame". I had mine for a couple of years before we moved. It is a beautiful sans... to me, sort of the croton of the sans world. Thanks for the FB Sans page suggestion. There's got to be another source out there other than Glasshouse Works. I have ordered from them before but that price is a bit steep.

It seems like prices have skyrocketed on even garden-variety sans. And these braided cylindricas with painted tips are obviously finding a market somewhere...

I think it's because sans have been an 'in' plant with the instagram/ pinterest crowd for several years: urban jungle, mid century and boho interior design and so on.

'Wagner's Gold' is quite variable. I started with a greener pup but have been slowly selecting out some with more stripes. I'll check.....not sure if I have any pups to spare yet......maybe or if not I should by next year.

    Thank you.

This plant on GHW's site looks awfully like my Lauren, which I just got a few days ago. Is it the same plant?

    This is Wagner's Gold???

I think you're right...that looks like Lauren. Wagners Gold looks more like the standard Sans Trifasciata... while longitudinal stripes may be present, crossbanding is prominent and there may be considerable variation between each leaf.

Just to clarify; the latest picture (mostly green, with some yellow) is W's Gold? It's gorgeous.

Need to find one now :)

Here is mine today. I probably will wait until next year to divide

That's just beautiful. Thanks for sharing the picture!

I think Wagner's Gold is my favorite Sans and it kills me that mine died.

    I'm sorry yours died!

The one on GHW looks like Lauren - I'm curious who has offered the real thing in the past?

Woodnative, may I ask where yours came from?

I got this from a fellow gardenwebber many years back.

I have ordered Wagner’s Gold three times recently from GHW, stating that i didn’t want any substitutions. Not one of them was Wagner’s Gold. They substituted other Sansevierias, whatever they had handy I guess.

Jim, I would help you but I never owned a Wagner's Gold and with all the Sans I owned I can't say I what one. Too many others are in my opinion are much nicer for to take up so much space. Limited space. Hope Chris can help you out.

I think 'Wagner's Gold' is an awesome cultivar! I love the cultivars that are variable like that. I also have Futura 'Striated" which is similar but a little more compact. Unfortunately I lost that big beautiful plant pictured above last winter as I did not have a good spot for it and it ended up getting hit by frost. I managed to get a new little growth out of a piece of rhizome that has sort of sat all summer but is still alive.......so hopefully I can build it back up again.

Sorry Chris I don't have none of those. One of the good things of giving out plants. Hopefully you get some back if things go south.
